Re: Pet shop hamsters? Whats the problam?
I can see myself getting into huge arguments over this so i'm going to make this my last post on any thread of this nature lol.
Education is key!!
No matter how hard you try - you cannot change everyone's mind. There are people here who take the opinion that it is not the hamsters fault so why boycott pet stores when you could give an innocent animal a loving home.
There are people here who disagree and say buying from pet stores is supporting rodent mills.
Everyone is entitled to their opinion and debating back and forth between the two is in my opinion, pointless.
My opinion is that boycotting pet stores is a pointless act.
Education is proven to make changes.
Since joining this forum I have learnt SO much and had a million ideas that could be out there right now.
Ideas on how to educate people on things such as these issues.
If I can have these ideas, why don't organisations whose jobs it is to do this - actually do it?
I feel that it is the organisations entrusted with the job of spreading awareness and education of these issues - who are letting us down.
We've all seen things about puppy farms, about battery hens, about pigs in tiny cages. But how many of us have seen the same information through mass media, about hamsters?
Boycotting didn't give pigs and chickens better living conditions -
Education did.
Campaigns did.
Government grants did.
Education is key and the organisations we entrust with that job are letting us down to the point where people in forums are reduced to doing their job for them.
Rodent mills should in my opinion stay. Just like sheep farms, chicken farms, cattle farms, pig farms etc have all stayed - because they all serve a purpose.
However - they should stay under the provision that organisations work to make them ethical, through education, just like has been done with chickens and pigs.
That's my 2c worth - I am now banning myself from making any further comments.
Peace too all xx

That's a bit of a silly statement to make I only came to my current opinion by debates, that's part of how opinions form
