Default Got bitten by new big rat

Got 2 rats and had them 4 couple weeks. We fell in love with the last baby girl the breeder had and put deposit on her. the breeder said u cant have her on her own so she paired her up with big older rat and she seemed fine when we held her. To cut a long story short she has been biting gently each time she comes out to play. Last night she turned her head when getting her out of her cage and she just nipped me but didnt hurt. Still took her out to play on sofa . she is really hyper and when I picked her up she bit me really hard and drew blood. Think I have done wrong thing getting her now as wonder why breeder wanted rid well actually now I know. Breeder said she had litter but killed all babies? We have had rats b4 so know that they are generally good natured. I dont even want to tame her now as terrified of her and think it is the way she is.The baby has a fine temperament but from the start kept thinking the big one had temperament issues. OH

don't let the biting put you off. Believe me the most vicious rat came into our house last May and I hated him. I have so many scars from being bitten but my sister has been so patient with him and if you met him now you would never think he was that same rat. He is so sweet and loves snuggles with his humans. It sounds as if the poor thing has not been socialised with humans or at least taught boundaries. Hopefully with love and patience you can win her round. I wish you both the best x

I got an older rat as a rescue, he was a right wosit at first, he never drew blood but it took a good few months to sort him out and now he is lovely likes to be fussed, greets me when i open the door. its great.

I did it by - and this sounds mean but it works, I held him and fussed him and let him crawl over me every day for about twently minutes and at the end he got his dinner or a treat. now he comes over to me as if to say come on I'm here give me my treat.

It is normally better to have two rats the same age? if you have one young one and one old one the old one can be irritated by the pingness and activity of the baby? I am a bit suprised a breeder gave you this combination.

What did the breeder say about the older one exactly?

Remember tho, like you said rats are very good natured and I believe they will all come round eventually.

Good Luck

NTH

The breeder said she was looking to rehome the older rat as she had been bred but had killed all the babies, therefore was no good for breeding. She also shows her rats. The baby rat which is only 7 wks now keeps still trying to suckle off the older one which is approx 7 months. Maybe this is probably annoying for the older 1 . Maybe they shouldnt be together. Breeder said she had never bitten b4? I will just keep trying with her.

Good luck I wish I could give you some more constructive advise but if she really did never bite before maybe she will settle down again soon
