Re: I'm a senior hamster?
This isn't me being rude or anything but would it be possible to have some clarification regarding post collecting?
The forum rules state the following -
Quote:
Post Collecting: We do not tolerate post collecting and to and fro chit chat makes the forum very hard to read and excludes other members. Please don't use it as a chat room as urgent posts can get overlooked.
|
However, how does a member or moderater judge whether a post is someone just post collecting, spamming or just coming from a chatty person?
Lately there have been a lot of posts that to me are spam however I haven't reported any because I don't know how the forum mods define post collecting and/or spam.
Don't get me wrong, I'm all for a bit of chatting here and there and getting to know fellow forum members but I'm finding it increasingly annoying reading through loads of two or three word posts that either make no sense, don't relate to the topic, are completely wrong (due to not reading the thread properly) or just utterly pointless.

Re: I'm a senior hamster?
May I just expand and add that the bringing up of old topics that has been happening recently is also quite annoying. Can also be quite upsetting if a Hamster as passed.
Sorry, I'm moaning, but yeah

Re: I'm a senior hamster?
Awww thank you Teddybearhamster420!
I think the trouble is that people can get very excited and forget about the rules regarding 'chit chat'. Sometimes, I have found myself wanting to remind people but daren't because I am not a mod; I also daren't because some members may take it personally.
Emily, I think that is partially to do with how the forum works too. When I joined, there were three pages of 'new' 'unread' threads that were in fact, months old. Some members probably didn't realise this and that is how older threads appear to get 'bumped'.

Re: I'm a senior hamster?
On the forum I mod on low content posts get you a warning. 3 warnings get you on probation. 2 more get you a temp ban and 2 more after that gets you a permanent ban. We even have a health bar on your profile so you can see how many warnings you have. Every 3 months the health bars reset. Not too harsh really.

Re: I'm a senior hamster?
Believe me it is not easy.
I think we judge it just as you judge it but we have to try and consider the context of the post, the thread and also if it is light hearted banter. It really is impossible for us to read everything especially at this time of year when we all want to enjoy some family time. Our own pets need attention too and we rely on members to show some consideration.
Some just do not do this though unfortunately and I do urge you to drop a mod a PM or report a thread about any particular issues though it may take time for these to be discussed in the mod area. Try and judge if it is going on all the time or just a one of line of chat though as we have a lot to do with all the spam you guys never see!

I think there's a difference between someone making an honest mistake when they join (something I doubt anyone would ever complain about) and continuing to do it once they have been warned by mods and asked to stop by other members.

Re: I'm a senior hamster?
yes! I do think so, once or twice that's fine, but to many times and people just get irritated.

And here I was thinking you were a Robot! I certainly appreciate, as many other members do, that you can't be on 24/7 or read every single post. I reckon we'd tell you to get a life if you did
There would be one way to cut down a little of your work and prevent members becoming irritated by topic bumping (old, old topic bumping I mean), there's an add on (I think it's an add on, not a default feature of vB, at least not this version) that automatically locks old topics. You can set the the time limit on it so that, for example, when a topic reaches 1 year old it automatically locks.
