Yep, I believe I read it my sophomore year. It did make me cry too, I'm such a sucker I enjoyed the book, I thought it was a great story. We we watched the film, it was a bit different from the book, but I still liked it as well I would definitely read it again!

We read it at school, everyone got grumpy with me because I finished it the first night and blurted out the ending in class >.<

I think we watched the film, can't really remember.

I had to read and watch it
I forgot about the dog being PTS though. The part which really got me was when Lenny got killed.
As sad as it is (only story to make me cry apart from the lion king lol) i still think it's good although i'll never watch it again. When parts get drilled into you though like the dog being killed it does make exams easier

I have just taught it for the fifth year running, it's one of my favourites to work with. If you can get a class on board with it, it provokes the most amazing discussions and debate. It's also perfect at the moment - the historical context of the Great Depression links so well with our current economic climate.

I still cry when reading it - I have to have a student reading the section about Candy's dog otherwise my voice would just disappear!

Apparently it's a good book?

Top set had to do their assessment on 'To Kill A Mockingbird' as it's more 'challenging' or something, so I never got to read 'Of Mice & Men'. Although, a dog gets shot in 'To Kill A Mockingbird' too.

I had to do this for GCSE too, which was about 9 years ago now! I cant beleive that the syllabus hasnt changed! I really enjoyed it, but I am a bit of an english nut, it was my fav subect and what I wanted to do at uni. I think it has a lot to do with how it is taught to you and whop is teaching it, if they are inspired by it and have passion, then that will rub off on the class and you will find it more enjoyable. The book is better then the film though, but the film may help you to understand the book at bit better,
