Furry Forum Global
Just posting a link to this forum as I've posted a link here on there.
http://p205.ezboard.com/bsmallandfurriesglobal
It's a site for all small furry pets, not just hams, but gerbils, cavies, rabbits and all sorts too. It's nice and friendly, a lot of gerbil owners there!

Yikes... Publicity for another forum!!! Im ruined!!
Nope Im just kidding I dont mind at all. Some of the things I didnt like about most of the other hamster/rodent forums I have been at is that they wont allow external links, they wont allow you to advertise a web page even if its your personally rodent hamster page and they wont allow you to post about other forums.
I suppose I can understand why people might feel this way, but the way I see it is that if its helpful then sure post it!! Im not about trying to have the most popular site or forum in the world, I want whats best for the people and their pets, in this case pet hams, So Im not going to add limitation to what people can learn and where they can easily find help.
Emma, great link.. Looks like a busy forum too. I thought about getting into breeding gerbils again as I did it before in the past, But one guy that owned this pet store said he didnt take gerbils to often because they werent as popular as hamsters and usually sold as snake food.. So I decided not to go with gerbils, for breeding anyway.

Links
Rather than list a whole load of hamster related sites on the forum it would probably be best to have a links page on your actaul website Candace? They way we can just refer people to the links page as the forum develops if need be. It would be nice if there was a quick, easy way to go to Hamster Central from the forum - such as clicking on the big "phpbb" icon in the top left corner. Is it possible to change this to the Hamster Central logo and hyperlink it

Yes I think thats a great idea, I have thought of doing that I just havnt gotten around to adding that part. First I will need the help of people to tell me what the good sites are and give me the URL so I can start to put one together...
If anyone reads this and has some good sites to suggest please email them to [email protected] and please include in the subject title "web site links"
Thanks.
Also I am looking into a way to hyper link the Logo of the Forum to the actual Hamster Central website. I think that would be nice too

I wouldn't add anything that doesn't link back to you - it's a two-way thing. I have submitted a post to FFG advertising here which is why I put a reciprocal post on "our" forum - however my post over on FFG hasn't been approved just yet (they screen posts in their links forum, which is fair enough, I haven't seen the forum owner post this weekend so I guess she hasn't seen it yet to approve).

Don't link back
That is fair enough in most cases however some sites out there are no longer maintained but still hold great information, such as SmallandFurries.co.uk. And as you say it can sometimes take ages for them to reciprocate the link as generally people want to check out the content of what they are linking to which is perfectly understandable.
It doesn't hurt to ask though and everyone is therefore encouraged to contact the owner of the website to see if they would be interested in putting up a link to Hamster Central - make sure to give them
http://www.hamstercentral.com
as the webaddress to link to, not the forum address

S&F is (was!) a good site, in fact I'm pretty sure that the FFG forum grew out of it. The old S&F forum was closed down and replaced by Rodent Resource UK (out of action at the moment), which is aimed at specialist exotic keepers, so the more "petty" members went to FFG, I think. I only really lurked there, but a lot of the same names crop up.
