The bad luck is over.
Have just become the proud owner of two multimammate mice and one zebra mouse from a localish person who was trying to dispose of her collection of small mammals to make way for more snakes. they are advertised on Preloved in the Mansfield area.

Great news Pouchy. Looking forward to meeting them when they have settled in. They sound very interesting. What are they called.

Congratulations Pouchy on your new additions. I have to admit to not really knowing much about mice but multimammate and zebra sound very interesting! It would be lovely to to see pictures when you get chance - otherwise I only have my imagination and I see a mouse with zebra stripes and hooves that brays like a donkey but even my imagination can't bring up anything for multimammate so will you please put me out of my misery and at least describe what it means?

multimammate means what it says. the females have have upto 9 pairs of m-a-m-m-a-r-i-e-s (just in case any children are reading this ). Remove the mental image of Dolly Parton right now! They are like a very large mouse, 2 - 3 x bigger, but not as big as a rat.
These two are about 5 inches long with a slightly shorter tail. One major plus point they have no smell so the males don't stink the house out.

Thanks Pouchy - I've learned my 'fact of the day'! I thought it might be something to do with that but thought that surely normal mice have more than one set so.......?
May they bring you hours of entertainment (I'm sure they will)
