Shark Alliance
Hey everyone, hope this is okay with the forum rules. I love sharks myself, and am appalled at the way in which they are treated. Which stems from the need for shark fins. I've seen my share of sharks, and am now looking into taking my scuba diving qualification
I would really appreciate if anybody that wants to sign this petition would. It is backed by the Pew Environment group. So it's not just one person trying a pointless petition.

Thank You

Re: Shark Alliance
Ooooh enjoy your SCUBA certification! I've been certified for almost 4 years now. It's so easy to get, and you will have amazing experiences diving. Marine ecology and diving are two of my passions, and I've done both research and recreational diving in the Caribbean and South America (and seen plenty of sharks, too!). They're so much cuter in person

Re: Shark Alliance
I think its terrible how they're hunted just for their fins, killing animals for food isnt so bad when all the animal is used and they arent overhunted but this is just a waste.
Could you's answer a question for me? I want to be a marine biologist but i have (very) mild athsma, would i still be able to do SCUBA?

Absolutely. I have moderate asthma, and it was no problem for me. Before you can even start your certification, they give you this form to fill out, and if you have certain medical conditions, you're required to have your doctor write a letter saying they believe it would be alright for you to dive.
The only problems I encountered were the swimming test ahead of time, and sinus problems. Before you can be certified, you have to swim a certain length with no stops, and I had to quit the first time because I was having trouble breathing. Just make sure you have your rescue inhaler available. Also, I get really bad sinus infections, which can make it hard to equalize the pressure in your ears when you dive down to certain depths.

Yeah if your doctor thinks its okay, then you should have no problem. But be sure to clear it with them first. When I went on dives, I made sure to use my daily inhalers every day, and I always had my rescue inhaler in my bag just in case. But I never had an issue, and I've gone on plenty of dives.
