Hello all,
Last night myself and my bf made the firm decision to welcome two little fluffies into our home. It was a huge decision and was not the easiest. If all goes to plan we will be making the 2 and a half hours journey to Hampshire to pick up 2 kittens- rat babies!
(the kidney pod will be an ideal carrier for them)
I have not intened to get more animals but the decision was made on the basis that Cloud and Zell are probably around a year and half already and I have been getting worried about what to do when we are left with a lone rat.
I am very new to the rat world but am part of a wonderful private forum where I have been building up advice and knowledge and its paid off- those of you who have followed Cloud and Zell will know the amazing progress I have had with them particulary the last month.
The timing of this litter seems perfect as I am still too ill to work and can't return to uni until October. Intros with rats are hard and there is a 50/50 success rate- so I have not entered into this lightly.
Worst case is that Cloud and Zell will bully the kits and the new kits will have to live in a separate cage. There is a chance however that when i do have a lone rat a 2nd attempt at intro could be attempted. My spare crit 1 cage is going to be their home during the intro.
I am however hoping that they intro and will live as a group of 4. We are taking cloud and zell down to the breeders house and she will supervise the initial intro and we'll see how it goes.
So yes- I am very nervous about it but the difference is these rats are from cleaner lines and have been handled from birth so technically I shouldnt have to put as much work into them as I have cloud and zell.
Enough chit chat then! You guys want pictures
This is the whole litter 2 days ago- 17 of them- mum only has 12 nipples! thats a dwarf house as well so look how tiny! They will be smaller when grown because of the litter size but thats fine by me!
Few days old- B1 is mine, the other not shown (B stands for buck)
Just under a week (B1 and B8 )
2 weeks
Just under 3 weeks
3 weeks old (taken saturday)
They were 3 weeks old yesterday and will be ready from the 2nd of January but due to my bf's work we can't collect them until they will be 8 and a half weeks near the end of January. They are from Firesev rattery.
We have thought of a few names, nothing in depth- Doc and Marty we quite like but we want to meet them first, feel free to add any
