Default Some good luck finally :)

Hey guys, this isn't hammy related but those of you who have been in rented houses and student/low budget/ starting out will really understand how happy I am!

Me and my bf have been in our rented house a year and few months now. We have had lots of problems and as it had 5 people in before therefore there is lots of surplus furniture. Not much storage space because of this.

We finally got one bed removed by the landlord but since have been trying to make it more homely.

This year we are making the scary move to have christmas together at our house so i want even more for it to be finished.

We don't have much money and in a rented house you don't want to spend too much on things like curtain rails, shelves etc.

But in the last day we have got several things.

I found a lovely brand new corner shelf unit in the skip..so i took it, dusted it and its cleaned up lovely..its £16 in B&Q atm..i saved it from landfill as well so nature points

Last night we finally smashed up our broken bed (couldnt get it down the stairs otherwise would have offered it on freecycle) and set up our new metal bed (ebay £10!). Our bedroom now instantly looks less scruffy and we had a decent nights sleep for the first time since moving in.

This morning we picked up a 6ft black christmas tree (ebay lol) and its fab and means we can have pressies under a proper sized tree!

but my biggest YAY!!!!! is thanks to freecycle.

For 8 months we've been after a small table and chairs so we can sit down for meals etc our front room was a bedroom, the beds gone but its just got the rats in and we'd like to make better use of it and last night one was advertised. So i just politely sent a message, no sob stories (as u get on there) just saying we need one, we dont have much money and would be greatful to be considered.

she messaged back saying she would deliver it for us!!!

She said sat but of course its the hammy show...so i told her and said id stay at home as it was more important an she said shed drop it off today!

She just pulled up...no spaces so she had to stay in the road, loads of cars were behind her waiting..when she had offloaded it all i gave her a bunch of flowers to say thanks..she was really taken back..and the cars started thumbs upping me and clapping! It was so lovely to see , in a big city, 3 car drivers not getting angry at having to wait and them obviously understanding the situation.

It really touched me...its not a fancy table. It needs a bit of cleaning up but for her to deliver it and then the drivers...im just really touched

ive offered things on freecycle and people just come and take and dont say thanks. Also people just message you saying "ill have it" etc..this is what it should all be about, manners and politeness.

Im so excited just to have a table..some of you may laugh but its not a neccesity really for us and they are expensive...

cant wait for my landlord to collect some more matresses and i can take some of the desks down and make a dining room for us...im scared enough about tackling christmas dinner!

hope this continues

Aww Nat thats wonderful!! You have restored my faith in the human race!! A little politeness and courtesy goes a long way, and I think people forget that sometimes . . .

Sounds like you have had some fab bargains there! A christmas tree and dressed table and a turkey in the oven - your house will soon be as homely as can be!

Amethyst you deserve the good fortune. It doesn't take much to say thank you and I'm sure that the lady who gave you the table got as much out of hte experience as you have. No matter how you say it, people should always say thank you and i bet that your way really brightened her day.

I'm sure with some cleaning of the table etc, some in expensive table decorations and some house dressing, your place will be perfect for xmas. In fact, what time should I arrive for dinner?

I've had some iffy things with freecycle, when you offer somebody something and they never reply...but I got a message saying thanks and that what I'd offered (after they'd picked it up) was perfect, and it really made me smile, a little thankfullness(?) goes a long way

And that's great about your table and chairs, My mum said that the birmingham freecycles didn't have anything on them, (when she was moving to barnt green) but it's awesome that you found something,

And I know what you mean about low budget accommodation, my boyfriends student housing doesn't even have a front door because they turned it into a bedroom, this room also has the fuse box, wireless router etc in it... so if anything goes wrong (like the other day) you're completely...uhm... stuck? best language I could think of..
it also has no heating and the UGLIEST décor ever... >.<
I just want to rip the wallpaper off the walls, but there's no point spending money on somewhere you're renting, just goes to your renters ultimately.

I once saw a gorgeous dining table as curb furniture, but couldn't get it home D:
bad times..that and I had nowhere to put it as I live at home...*whistles*

sounds like you're going to have a nice Christmas after all...almost an early one ...and didn't you get your rats off freecycle? it could be your freecycle room

cockerel?! Never heard of that! I have turkey every year but me and el have stopped buying chicken and swapped to turkey as its much cheaper so fancied something different. And also with there just being 2 of us we dont need a whole gobble bird hehe

Suga- I have my first practice this weekend. My lil sis and my bfs mum are coming round and I said i'd do a roast...never done one for 4 people, only 2!

Yes I did get the ratties from freecycle lol can be my freebie room lol Freccycle brum is hit and missy..i got a hammy ball from there but most people are just greedy and want their whole house furnished. I try find affordable things but if i cant ill ask on the off chance. I try to offer things but i offered lots of mugs and glasses few weeks ago and was so ..insulted by the replies i got i took them to the dogs trust chairty shop! Some of the stories seemed to be made up, others sounded like dealers/carbooters and no-one said please!

Here was me and the bf smashing up the bed..hope in attachments for you

Hmm, its a bit like chicken (isnt everything!) but it has a stronger flavour, its quite yummy, but its a big bird (as it were) though - we end up eating it for days! I would be happy with a couple of nice venison sausages though!

Looks like you had fun with the bed - hehe!! Nice curtians btw!
