Default Goodbye Bogie

Today the most beautiful and the kindest creature in the whole Universe passed away.
Bogie was my first hamster and he went sooner than I expected. I don't know how old he was, but he was the man of the household for 1 year and two months. He was really kind and nice and we used to play together every morning and evening. He was even waiting for me by the cage and he always came onto my hand and I transferred him to his playground, where we just played. He used to run a lot and use the slide a lot and he used to always let me know when he wanted to come out.

I remember when I first got him, he was absolutely frightened of me. When I touched him with the tip of my finger he would startle so much. I thought we'll never be close. I used to watch so many YouTube videos and read so much about hamsters and I'm really grateful to Bogie for becoming the best friend I could've ever hoped for.
He was able to even learn some of the tricks my friend's dog couldn't, so he was really intelligent. I even managed to potty train him and he loved taking sand baths. His waking up routine was usually waking up, taking a bath, washing himself, going to the food bowl and washing his paws (it was cute how he always rubbed them together. I was confused in what he's doing, because he's paws were kinda like Mr.Burn's "excellent" from the Simpsons till somebody told me that he's washing his paws) and then he started eating.

I tried to give him the best life that I could and hopefully Bogie was generally pleased.
It's a shame that he's last 3 weeks weren't usual and he was sick and he couldn't enjoy it, but before that I hope he was happy and pleased and I know hamsters are solitary animals, but hopefully he knew that I loved him.

I can't imagine falling asleep tonight, because even yesterday Bogie was doing some stuff in his nest and I usually fell asleep to the noises he made, whether it was building a nest, digging or other hamster things.

I'm really grateful to Bogie for everything and especially for being so friendly and nice to me. I always told him that he's my first hamster and asked him to forgive me if I do something wrong. I'm grateful to Bogie for being friendly and nice towards me till the very last moment we spent together.

His operation wasn't successful and he didn't die in his nest, but at least he no longer has to suffer.
He was strong and amazing. I'll love him forevermore and will never forget him.

Reading your beautiful tribute and seeing these lovely pictures brought tears to my eyes. I am so very sorry you lost Bogie. Your bond was so precious.

Thank you. I would've never even imagined that I have such an emotional attachment to Bogie or to a hamster. I really hoped the life he lived before he got sick.

That does not surprise me because they are such wonderful animals, full of personality. Bogie actively sought out your company which is rare with hamsters. I am certain he was very happy living with you.

That's why I got lucky. He was always waiting for me at the certain times to get outside and play.
I have no idea how I did, but I'm glad I got to be with him. I hope he died without feeling any pain and I hoped he was dreaming of beautiful things. While we were at the waiting room at the vet's he kept looking at me for awhile. What makes me feel better is that he doesn't have to suffer anymore, because the vet asked me if I am sure I want to proceed with the operation. If I would've said no Bogie would be still alive, but suffering and that's not life either. He could no longer do Bogie's things. It's been awhile since I even heard him running on the wheel.
I'm just grateful to him for everything.

My friend gave me his framed picture, so he's still always with me and he's looking at me right now as well

That was so thoughtful of your friend. It will be lovely to have his picture close by you.

He sounded wonderful. Lucky you to have had such a bond with him. Sorry for your loss and glad that you have a framed picture of him.

I'm sorry for your loss. Bogie was so lucky to have an owner who did everything to help him.

Thank you all. It means a lot.
It's weird to be without him. Usually around this time he'd be waking up, but not today. He's in a better place now and I'm lucky that my first hamster was so friendly and nice.
