Little Gus
My little man passed away early hours this morning. I'm so heartbroken, he was my first ever hamster and I couldn't have asked for a better one.
I rescued him June last year, they described him as a little heartthrob and they were not wrong.
It didn't take him long to happily warm up to me, he was the sweetest little character. Always kept me on my toes during his free roam, from trying to stuff any many treats in his mouth as he could while I wasn't looking, to being a little dare devil and climb as high as he could. Of course he was a spoilt little boy as well.
Unfortunately Gus got diagnosed with cushings disease in June this year but he was still his sweet, funny, little self eventhough he was tired and slowing down.
I went to refill his water I could tell he wasn't right, so I gave him a little stroke and he usually looks up but he didn't move. I got him out his cage and could tell he was ready to go, I held him in a towel until he took his last breath.
He was 1 year and 9 month old and the last nearly 3 months of those he fought his hardest against the disease and I couldn't be more proud of him.
I wish I could've had a little longer with him under different circumstances, but I know he's comfortable and happy now and that's all that matters.
Thank you to anyone that give me advice on here when I needed.
Added a few of my favourite pictures of the little man

I am so sorry to read you have lost Gus. Your tribute to him is beautiful. I love the pictures of him especially the one of him on your shoulder. My thoughts are with you.

Re: Little Gus
I am so sorry. It’s gut wrenching when they go. You can see he was a happy hamster from those photos. It isn’t much consolation but at least he passed at home where he was loved. He’s now pain free and playing over the rainbow bridge with all our other hams who have passed on.
It’s very hard the first few days - I find it helps to cover the cage over so I don’t keep seeing it - then clean it out and put it away when you’re ready. Surround yourself with people who love you and when the time is right, a new fur baby will benefit from your love and care. It can help to get one that is a different colour - they all have their own personality too.

I am so sorry for your loss. It is truly awful when they leave us. Thank you for sharing those beautiful photos of Gus.
It shows that he had a very happy life and a peaceful end with you there to give him comfort. He was a lucky hamster.
Play well at the bridge little Gus.

Thank you for the advice, I never thought about covering the cage over, I have still yet to clean it.

So sorry for your loss, he was such a gorgeous ham. His face especially, he looks so happy and ready to be anyone's friend. I'm glad you guys had almost 2 years together, have fun at the bridge with all the great hams Gus.
