This may seem unsympathetic at this time. I have a lovely blonde syrian hamster, she's only 7 months old but I dread the day when she ventures across the rainbow bridge and I can't help worrying about where to bury her as I have no garden. Does the vet usually take them? I may be being silly but she is my dearest friend and I love her.

Yes, you can have her cremated at the vet's and have her ashes returned in an engraved wooden box.

You are not being silly and your hamster is very lucky to be your dearest friend.

It's not silly to worry about it. I always like to do something meaningful after they die (in my case burying them in a nice spot in the garden).

A vet can cremate a pet, either in a group with other pets, which is cheaper but you don't get any ashes back. Or you can pay for an individual cremation where you get the ashes back.

If you have a small patio or balcony or similar you could bury a hamster In a very large plant pot.

Depending where you live, there are some pet cemeteries in the UK too.

Thank you so much for your helpful advice. I like the idea of having her ashes so I feel much better now and look forward to many, many more months with my Coco.
