My Little Ole Man - Sammy RIP
When I got Sammy 2yrs 2 1/2 months ago his little ears were pinned back and he was breathing heavy. He was much bigger than a store hamster so I thought maybe someone had brought him back. Nonetheless, the girl said she would put him in a box, and I said no he's fine and placed him in my shirt against my chest. I told him he would never be snake food. Sammy was my 2nd hamster that I got just 4 days after I lost my 1st hamster (Mr. Quigley) who died suddenly just 30 days after I got him. I wanted to make Sammy's life as best as I could and he lived in a 75 gal aquarium. I brought him out every night for the routine of changing his water bowl and getting his food. All the while he would run across the counter and under the stove burners to the other side where he eventually wound up chewing my phone cord in half. I would hold him and let him run around the couch, sometimes on the floor, and one day bought him a leash and we ventured outside. He would go wild. I am very sad tonight as I write this. I knew the other day that something might be wrong because it was the first time that he bit me. But tonight when I saw him come out I called him, he was breathing fast and he eventually turned around to come to me and I could tell by the way he walked to me that his time was close. I reached my hand out and he tried to bite me again. I picked him up held him a few minutes and went to the kitchen for our regular routine. Only when he got to the other side of the stove he started stumbling. I held him in my arms and he just laid there. I pet him gently but he was still breathing hard. It wasn't but a few moments later he was gone. I will miss him greatly as everyone does their own. He brought me tons of happiness and laughter everyday. I thank God that he went quickly. RIP Sam Bodino.
