Goodnight Luna
My sweet Luna passed away in the night.
She's had some health issues recently and I've been making her as comfortable as possible in her old age (2 years 2 months). Last night she came out to see me, looking very tired, to say goodbye.
She let me stroke her and didn't make a fuss, so I am confident that she wasn't in any pain.
I can't afford a cremation or burial, and I don't have a proper garden as I'm in a flat, so I plan to go buy a plant with a large pot to bury her in today and keep at the block entrance outside..
I've known that this was coming and I'm upset, but so relieved it was peaceful and she's not in pain or discomfort.
I've put together some photo albums of her which I will link here:

She was a sweet girl and I hope she has a lovely time playing at the bridge.

Re: Goodnight Luna
I'm sorry for your loss spacebyte, Luna lived to a good age & you did everything you could for her, I'm sure she appreciated the care & knew how much she was loved. I'm glad she was able to go peacefully to the bridge.
Run free & play well at the bridge Luna.

She has been buried here.
I'm so sad. I know I've done my best and I knew this day was coming but I'm just so sad.

Re: Goodnight Luna
Sorry that you have lost the lovely Luna, spacebyte. She had a long life with you and went peacefully at home which is the best way. I think your pot and plant is a lovely and dignified burial spot. I have a garden but I have chosen pot burials so that I can take the pots with me if I move.
Play well at the bridge Luna.

The plant pot is lovely for her & I'm sure it will be a comfort to you too with time.

Re: Goodnight Luna
So sorry to hear about little Luna, she was a jolly good age, it was nice that she came to see you to say goodbye.
It is a nice idea for her memorial too, I hope it brings you comfort.
Luna will be in good company at the bridge with many hammy friends.
Rest and play well little Luna

Re: Goodnight Luna
I've cried and slept a lot and I feel better.
Every time I go into the living room I want to have a peek in her cage, I just went to refill her water out of habit and then I realised how daft that was. It's a different kind of sad than yesterday. A huge part of me is relieved for her but I also feel the loss. I think it's going to take me a while to clean out the cage.
I think it's especially hard as I'm alone, currently many of my friends are away for spring break and I live away from family. She was always there when I'm by myself. I've had issues with my health and insomnia for months, and she was always up when I was up and gave me someone to talk to. But I know she is at peace now.

Re: Goodnight Luna
I am so sorry. She is playing free over the Rainbow Bridge now, free from pain. But it leaves a gap. The habits are hard. Take your time with sorting things out when you feel like it. I am sure you will want another hamster friend soon - they are all different xxx

I have a lot to go through the next few months, I'm graduating, I'm moving away, starting a new job. But no doubt I'll be back after the summer when things have settled. I think a new house wouldn't be right without a sweet little friend to come home to. I will see you all then <3 Thank you all for being sweet to me over the last few days, and for all the advice I've been given over Lunas lifetime.
