Default To All Those Who Have Lost a Baby Hamster or a Litter

Nature is beautiful. But it also can be brutal.

Losing an old, senior hamster is hard. Trust me, I know. When Zelda died, I was devastated. She was always there for me, for her babies. She was one of the family. Any other hamster would be the same. It's hard losing an old ham.

Losing a young adult hamster is hard too. When Uno died he was about 2 months old. That's not right. It's not right for young hamster, with so much to live for, so many memories to be made, to die. It's hard losing a younger ham.

But when a baby hamster dies? Or a whole litter? It's heartbreaking. It's awful. What could you have done? What did you do wrong? Everything goes through your mind. They could have been so wonderful. The new eyes opening, the innocence they have. Their small ears and soft fur, their love of basking in a warm ray of sun. The cuddles with their mother, who adores them, and the pile they make after a day of playing. Trying to reach the water bottle for the first time, and jumping back when a drop of cool water touches their nose.

Those are all things you'd think they will never have.

But you'd be wrong.

They do those things. They play, and jump, and nibble on carrots. They stuff their faces with broccoli, and run off to play with the other hams that have been lost. They meet their grandparents, aunts, uncles, and other relatives who have left the earth.

They meet your first ham, and tell stories about you. They laugh and twitch their little noses and squeeeeek! It never becomes time to sleep. They just play, and play, and play...

Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.

When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge.
There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together.
There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.

All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor; those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by.
The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.

They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent; His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.

You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.

Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together....

Hamsters can't leave much behind. They can't leave money, or a house. The only thing hamsters can leave behind is the love you gave them xxx

That's lovely Colby. It's been a rough few months with a lot of lost baby hams.

Tons. It's really sad.
