Default Saying Goodbye to Spud

Although not unexpected, I am devastated to tell you that my beautiful, soft mink boy Spud, has been put to sleep tonight.

Spud who spawned a deep love affair with the colour mink, appeared to have had a bad stroke last Wednesday, and lost much of the strength in his front and back legs. Since then, he has shown remarkable resilience and despite us hoping that he would pass away quietly in his sleep has still crawled on his tummy out to see us when he heard us moving around near his cage.

He hasn't been able to eat or drink himself, so since his stroke we have been syringe feeding him porridge, recovery food (for small animals) and water, but though he was weakening and at times obviously confused he just wouldn't slip away quietly, and so we had to make a very hard decision tonight.

I honestly can say I feel as though I have lost one of my best friends. We always loved each others company, and I would spend hours on the computer with Spud sat on my boobs, occasionally climbing up my shoulder to rummage through my hair (he loved pouching the ends of it and gently pulling). When he started balding along his back, Arti was convinced I had kissed the fur right off him

I took these photos of him tonight, to show you that though his legs werent working well, he was still a beautiful and gorgeous man, but I also want him to be remembered as he was here and also how lively and fit he was just a few short weeks ago here

I also need to say, from both me and Im sure from Spud as well, a very special thankyou for the support we received during the last few days from a very special forum member who wont want naming - but thanks so muchxxx

Sleep well my darling boy - you will never be forgotten xxx

Aw I'm so sorry.

I guess I can sympathise as we lost our elderly Syrian girl Tinkerbell last weekend - she too appeared to have suffered from a stroke and had the same final symptoms as Spud.

Isn't it horrible saying goodbye?!

At least Spud had a great life with you xx

Goodbye Spud x

I am so sorry for your loss. His life was a pleasure to share for you and filled with love. Treasure his memories in your heart. Play well at the bridge Spud and say hello to all the hammies who have gone before.
