Default I'm still in shock. I'll always love you Sticky Buns...

I lost my syrian ham Sticky Buns a week ago.

I haven't been able to bring myself to write anything about it until now.

Last Tuesday night my boyfriend and I noticed that she never came out to play. We were sitting on the couch right next to her cage.

I had a bad gut feeling and decided to check on her. We dug around in her cage and couldn't find her... we lifted up her nest box thing and found her lying there. My heart sunk... she was still alive but barely breathing.

She was 100% fine the night before... and now she's laying there barely alive. I knew there was nothing I could do for her.. our exotics vet wasn't open (it was around midnight). I cranked the heat in our apartment because she felt so cold. I slept in the living room next to her.

When I woke up for work she had passed. It was a rough day at work, and it's been rough ever since.

We lost our little sticky buns.. our little princess.

We only had her about 11 months..
She was the first hamster that taught us that hams can learn their names. She would sit and watch us watching TV. Her adorable antics would always cheer us up. She was hands down the most agile rodent I've ever seen. She made her 60 gallon ferret cage seem too small for her at times.

We took down her cage.. and re arranged the furniture but the room will always have an empty feeling.

I miss her every day. I hope there really is a rainbow bridge out there, so she can burrow underneath it and munch on delicious treats forever.

I love you my little princess..

Here's a video of her eating cilantro a few weeks ago.

Thank you everyone.

My boyfriend and I are still very broken up over it.

She left a syrian sized hole in our lives.

I am so very sorry for your loss. We never know when our little ones will be called and sometimes it is far too soon and too sudden for us to accept
It sounds as if she may have had a stroke and that has taken her over the bridge quickly and peacefully. I'm sure she felt comforted by your presence and it was an honour to walk a little way along the path with her.
Play well at the bridge Sticky Buns and send a rainbow to your family to tell them you are safe x

Thank you
I like to think she was happy we were with her. I remember when we moved across the street to a bigger apartment we carried her cage and she woke up and was very scared... until she heard my voice and she ran over to me.
I was driving to my parents place Christmas eve with my boyfriend and we did see a rainbow.. it was on a sunny day too(probably from sun shining through frozen clouds). I managed to snap a picture of it, it didn't come out very well.. but maybe it was from my little sticky

I'm very sorry for you and your boyfriends loss. Sticky Buns was gorgeous. She sounded like a lovely character to have around.
