Re: Chocowoko
in one religion, maybe buddhist, they believe that when you die, before you enter paradise, you walk down a line of all the animals you have ever owned and only if those animals agree, you can enter heaven. The animals are the ones that judge you. I think that would be good if it were true. I try to think about that, even though i don't believe it, and think if i would pass the test. i think that's a good way to measure how good an owner you are. Really think to yourself, would these animals let me pass? although i guess these clueless people would still say yes

I doubt I would carry on walking down the path, I would be too busy playing with all the animals!

Re: Chocowoko
For every sad and lonely moment Choco, there will be a hundred moments full of joy at the bridge. The ground will be thick with sunflower seeds and yoghurt drops. The river under the bridge will have the sweetest, clearest and coolest water, and just to the right of the bridge is a huge playground where you can run and jump and climb to your hearts content without ever encountering a set of bars.
You will find soft clean bedding for when your little legs tire, so soft it will feel like you are resting on a cloud.
You will be surrounded by loving arms to hold and caress you, and there will be lips there to tell you how beautiful you are, how much you are loved and to kiss your soft fur.
Enjoy it to the full little Choko - and be surrounded by the joy and friendship of all those hamsters before you and yet to come, who have to wait to receive what they really should have had from the very first xx

Re: Chocowoko
This has been on my ind all day and I can't stop thinking about how this little guy has suffered. I really think this person needs reporting to the RSPCA for neglect - she has failed in her duy as an owner and she has failed the legal requiremet she has since the Animal Welfare Bill to provide proper care for him.
I also think this story needs to be posted on every "Should I get a hamster?" website page and in every book.
Would you mind if I use it on mine, Katzilla? I will credit it to you. I just want to make people stop and think, before they give a young child who patently won't care for it, a pet. I understand if you don't want to though.
I hope the bad karma is on it's way to the selfish, heartless woman.

Re: Chocowoko
Yes, i think that is a good idea Holly. if i get a website i'd post it up on mine too. Millions of kids get hamsters every day who will end up dying in a tiny cage without love. This is exactly the reason that none of my hamsters will ever be going to a pet shop.

Re: Chocowoko
Please change the name to Luke and it would be no problem, don't credit me either as I always think that an uncredited peice like that makes the story closer to home, if that makes sense?
I think it's a good idea to put it up. Not only does it warn people who want a hamster but also people who breed. Do they want their babies to end up with somebody like this?
Thanks everyone for your comments x

Re: Chocowoko
Thank you Katzilla, I'll update my site shortly with an "Is a Hamster for you?" page - it will also carry the quote:
"If you can't afford the vet, you can't afford the pet"
...as some people seem to think hamsters don't require vet care
Poor little chap, I'm still thinking about him. I wish one of us could have taken him.
