Vanilla <3

Vanilla was the most friendly , sweet and happy hamster I have owned. For a 2 and a half year old she looked and acted if she were 2 months (accept for her size )...
Vanilla had 9 pups and she was a wonderful mother, also a wonderful friend.

It was sad to see her go, she had a tumor on her front leg and as it grew she stayed her happy old self. I wish I could have taken her to the vet, but things were really rough and my parents had no money...I begged them, every day. But all I could give her was love and care. I noticed yesterday (September 21,2013) that she wasn't breathing right, I took her out of her cage and onto my bed, I tried feeding her and giving her water but she wouldn't take it. It was a while before she could open her eyes, I knew it was her time... she soon couldn't walk and she fell on her side. I picked her up in my hands and watched her take her last breaths. It was hard to let her go, to stop petting her...but I knew she was gone.

I will miss you vanilla, But I know you will be safe with Cookie&Nutmeg...
I hope you are pain free and can run again.

I'M very sorry you hae lost your friend... Takle comfort in knowing that she felt loved and taken care of, which is not something all hammy will feel... Hope that the memories of her will soon bring a smile to your lips...

Thank you everyone....I have to say this is the the the saddest loss out of all my hamsters...although I love all my hamsters, ones that have passed away and ones that are still with me, Vanilla has always been very close to me and it was devastating to see her go

She was a beautiful ham and obviously very close to your heart, I'm sorry for your loss. Please don't feel guilty about not getting to the vets - options for tumours are limited and at 2 and a half years she was a good old age and I think the vet wouldd probably have advised letting her live out her days at home with you instead of putting her through the stress of treatment. Rest well little one.
