I found little Cosmo curled up half in and half out of his favourite nesting area (under his wheel - he felt wheels were for sleeping in/under, not for exercise). He was a lovely little chap who, in his younger days, enjoyed curling up under my hair and attending display shows. Over the last few months, Cos had become a grumpy old man and preferred to be left in peace, but was always first to poke his nose at me if his bowl needed a refill.
He'd been a little off colour recently since his shelf-mate Gavroche died, but nothing I could put my finger on. On Saturday I spent most of the day in the hamster room and heard him digging and rearranging his home as if he were back to normal. It was his little rally before the end, making sure he had everything in order.
Run free, little Cosmo. xxx
