Today I saw a Rainbow as I drove in to work and I knew that it was his. Such a big rainbow for such a small creature. I think it had to be big because he had a lot of love to carry over with him. It was bright and clear and beautiful and eclipsed the dreary factories bathing them in bright light. They say the first rainbow you see after a little one passes is the sign that they have truly climbed over to the bridge and now I can feel that I can write about Dommy Bob.
We first saw him when Rachel posted a picture of her very first litter and when we saw that little face it was love at first sight. We were so lucky that Rachel trusted us with such a precious bundle and also so lucky that Teresa, Arti and Amy let us have him as they brought him north for us and he stayed with them for a few weeks and won over their hearts too.
He was a true gentleman. He never ever nibbled anyone and took great pleasure in nesting in Pophammy's hair and sitting on her shoulder while she studied. He was her constant companion though GCSE's and A levels providing relaxation and entertainment as well as a certain understanding and patience that was a joy to witness. A few frustrated tears were shed over his soft fur but he never minded remaining his calm, gentle and reassuring self.
He did well in shows and as he matured became a stunning colour and size. He gained many Best in show Dwarf awards as well as class wins and in the past Junior BIS awards. He wasn't that keen on shows though so he was retired young. Although he could be shy he was the most active little lad. He would be up all night racing on his wheel (as well as peeing) and was always around when you put his food in. He did love his food as well as moving his bed around on a weekly basis.
He was an old man when he died last week at 2 1/2 and though he had not been ill over the two days before he left us he had that look in his eye that was just 'tired' I think. He ate a piece of melon the night before and I said goodnight but I felt somehow it was goodbye and in the morning he was curled up asleep forever. It was a good way to go. It was calm and peaceful like him.
It is hard to believe such a little one can have such a huge personality and presence but he did. He was just something special.
Goodbye to you our sweet and charming little prince and thank you for sharing your life with us. It was the best.
Play well at the bridge Dommy Bob
