my little man Mortimer has passed away i got him on the 5th of July from an RSPCA rescue centre and he was old then, so i feel lucky to have had over 6 months with him. he was my first ever mouse, and will have a special place in my heart. he was a feisty little devil too, if he wasn't happy about something-he'd let you know! i treasure the playtimes we had together (mainly him charging about and running across my arms!).
i just wish i had been there at the end i spotted him just sitting under his hammock in the open and i knew something was wrong. i tried to pick him up but he moved out of reach. he tried to climb the small elevated rim on the second level of the pennine cage but i could he see had no energy. before i could catch him he fell down the tube. i knew it was serious i pulled him out and he just sat there. his breathing was laboured and his eyes were stuck together. normally he'd be scampering about. i rang up the vets for an emergency appointment but i was late for work. i left Mortimer in the careful hands of my vet student sister. but he never made it to the vets. he died peaceful wrapped up in my mother's nightgown with a hot water bottle at 4.25pm yesterday. i am glad he passed away warm, with food in his tummy and with people who loved him.
sleep tight little man x your mummy loves you and misses you so much. you will never be forgotten and can never be replaced x
