I agree with Hope's post--Your fluffball was loved very much and he had the best worried mommy to take care of him. Things happen that no one can predict, but you should never be sorry for something you did to help the ones you love with pure intentions in your heart.

I think Porridge was happy with the loving home you gave him and is happy now in his new home.

I have had to take a step away and come back to this after thinking about so much sadness that we have had on the forum these last few days.
You must never dwell on the past and try and work out why things happen. Your choice was the only choice and was always right Mel so never doubt yourself. He chose his path today and I know he will be joining Ed, The Cloud and others who are walking paw in paw to the bridge. Watch for the Rainbow - they send a rainbow eventually as a sign to tell you they have reached their new home and are waiting.
Play well beautiful Porridge - it was an honour and a privilige to share a little bit of your wonderful life and thank you for making Mel so very happy.

I always knew this time would come,
From the very instant our eyes first met.
How I loved you then! How I love you now!
I made a promise then, and I will keep that promise now...
You will not suffer from a pain that will not heal;
You will not know the loss of a life remembered, now gone.

It is for me alone to make this decision,
The price for the bright joy and pure laughter
You brought me during the time we shared.
I am the only one who can decide when it is time.
When my hope dies, and my fear rides high,
Just when I need you most, I must let you go.

It is for you alone to tell me when you are ready
For without your guidance, I will not know
When to lay my grief, my guilt, my anger
My sorrow and my selfish heart aside
And give you this last gift, this greatest gift.
Your eyes will speak to mine, and I will know.

The pain of this moment is excruciating.
Tears stream down my face in a river of sorrow.
And my heart drowns in a pool of grief.
For you have spoken and I have listened,
And unlike other decisions I have made
This one brings no relief...no comfort...no peace.

For if there´s one thing you´ve taught me,
If there's only one thing I´ve learned...
Unconditional love has a condition after all,
I must be willing to let you go, when you speak to me
I must be willing to help you go, if you cannot go alone.
And I must accept my pain so you can be free of yours.

Go easily now, go quickly now,
Do not linger here, it is time for you to leave.
Go find your strength, go find your youth.
Go find the ones who've gone before you.
You are free to leave me now, free to let your spirit soar
Rest easy now, your pain will soon be gone.

I pray I will find comfort in my memories...
In the dark and lonely days ahead.
I cannot say I will not miss you, I cannot say I will not cry.
For only my tears can heal my broken heart.
But, I promise you this; as long as I live,
You will live, alive in my mind, forever in my heart.

So I give you this last gift, all I have left to give,
And this will be my greatest gift...sending you away.
It is the measure of my unconditional love...
For only the greatest love can say,
"Good-bye, go find the bridge, we'll meet again,
Loving you has been the greatest gift of all."

Forever and Always... Until Rainbow bridge....

Thankyou all.
And Souffle those are truely lovely words that speak very much to my heart. The losses have been a hard hit to HC as they always are, but I know many more wonderful lives and memories will come and go for as long as I am here x

I'm so sorry Porridge passed.
He was one hunk of fluff, so dang adorable!

I bet he's having a great time at the bridge though ... xx With tons of wheels, hideys, toy, and treats to use whenever wished!

What a lovely tribute to a gorgeous fluffball. It was obvious that he was meant to be yours and although he may have been taken too soon at least you know that the life you gave him was the best he could possibly have.
As has been said, the choices we make are made with love and therefore the right ones, even though it may not seem like it at the time, so know that what you chose to do was the right thing.
There seems to have been a few losses recently, including my chinese hamster Mouse, but we should not think of them as gone just moved on to a wonderful forever home where they will always be healthy and happy.
Play well at the Bridge little fluffster and know you were loved beyond words xx

Just want to say how sorry I am. Porridge was one of the first hamsters I saw when I joined the forum, he was a gorgeous boy and was very lucky to spend his life with you.

That poem is lovely Souffle.

This site keeps making me cry and smile at the same time.

Porridge was amongst the proud kings of the fluffsters! He was a super star. I hope he and Chewy don't get tangled up when they meet!

I am astonished and more than a little heartbroken at this news. But you must never blame your decision making - you did what you thought was right. Even the vet thought it was the right thing for him. Everyone thought that the otherwise-healthy and sparkling gent would whizz through. But unfortunately it wasn't enough this time .

He will always be in my heart, I loved our gang of fluffsters! They are all very special to me and I often wish I could visit them all! (I know, I don't care about visiting people ). I hope the ones who have departed too soon have cobbled together some sort of gentlemans club, where they can sit and groom each other, up on ham-cloud.

Please don't ever, ever be mean to yourself about a choice you have made that was made with the best intentions. Ever!

Thank you for letting us all share a little of Porridge's life. He will be missed, but his memory (and his booty!) will always raise a smile. xxx
