Runty
In memory of Runty, the sweetest of the sweet. Runty was, as his name suggests, the runt of the litter. He was born with a twisted spine and tail, but that did not stop him from doing anything. He was probably the gentlest, most beautifully natured hamster we have ever had the pleasure to share our lives with.
The tiniest baby in the nest,
Set you apart from all the rest,
Black, eyed sable,
Tail turned up,
My sweetest Runty, hamster pup.
I watched you run,
I watched you play,
In my heart you'd always stay,
I never could give you up,
My sweetest Runty, hamster pup.
And when three years had drifted by,
The sparkle left your shiney eye,
I saw your lifeforce start to fade,
Your chestnut fur begin to grey.
And now you're gone,
My heart is breaking,
The longing for you,
In me is aching,
One day we'll meet again I know,
You'll run to me, your eyes will glow,
I'll bend down and pick you up,
My sweetest Runty, hamster pup.
RIP Runty - 26th August 2002 - 19th September 2005

Goodbye my darling Maisie
Dear Maisie, you came to me at a point in my ife which was full of problems and loneliness and filled me with love and happiness.
It was so lovely coming home to you - I loved your funny little ways. I am so sad that you're gone and I will miss you so much. I'll never forget you little one

My second Hamster but the one I had the longest. Of course I love all my hamsters to bits and would die without them but Hamlet had a special place. I can't begin to describe it.... we went through a lot together in the year and a half I had her...
I will never forget how brave you were my Hamlet. You survived Wet Tail. You did it with your strength and kindness. You knew I couldn't bear to lose you so soon... you fought hard my sweetie. You were always a pretty little girl with plenty of stamina and you never gave up on what you started. You suffered from many colds because you had such a poor immune system after the Wet Tail...
Always the little poorly sleepy head needing cuddles...
Your one and only birthday went down in style...
You were a star Hamlet. on the PWS forums you were famous. Everyone knew you, and loved you, and loved your photographs. The photograph everyone remembers was of course your breadstick vanishing act... taken only days before I helped you on your way...
^^ and for those who don't know... she did indeed pouch the whole thing...
perhaps one of my favourite photographs from Christmas.. The one that was on the front of all my Xmas cards...
You will forever have my heart my little baby...
always strong and always stubborn... you loved that bone!
That was all very well until that gutting day I knew you were really ill and that this was it.... you had lost a lot of your hair... you got skin cancer... you got tumors all over your poor poor little body... I knew you weren't going to live through this but without once complaining you took your medication without a complaint and you tried your hardest not to be ill. You just couldn't beat Cushings Disease. You couldn't beat it but you battled it and fought like a hero for 7 months but I had to let you go.. you were fighting your hardest for me so I had to do the hardest thing I ever could and I had to fight to let you be free of fear, free of pain and free of struggle...
Damn Cushings Disease because I miss you Hamlet
Will see you at Rainbow Bridge when I get there... I will be looking for you my sweetie. Look after my other little guys for me like I know you would.

Where Andy really went when he died
On my fifth birthday, I recieved my very first hamster. I named him Andy. I loved him! We did everything together. We watched TV and I carried him around in my pocket. I even tried to brush his teeth.
One day I woke up and ran down stairs to play with Andy. I blew on him and he didn't move. Then I shook his cage. He still didn't move. I finally stuck my hand in and picked him up. He was cold and stiff!
Andy had died. I cried and cried. My dad made a coffin for him and that day we buried him under a pine tree. We even had a tombstone. Dad told me that Andy was in heaven. In hamster heaven there is a HUGE field with lots grains for hamsters to eat. So, I felt better.
That same day, I went up to my grandma's house. She looked me and said, "So, I hear your hamster died."
Me, "Yes, but he went to hamster heaven."
Grandma looked me square in the eye and said, "No he didn't. Your hamster went to hell!"

For Phoebe
My little funny-eyed girl I always think of you as a mild-mannered and gentle hamster, always so delicate in the way you ate and went about your business. But looking back you were often up to mischief too.....managing to get stuck inside my printer on your first evening free-ranging in my room (we had to unscrew the front to get you out!!!), chewing a little piece off my OH's parent's mantlepiece (it's still missing - I just looked today, you little mix!) and then the frantic 12 hours I had trying to retrieve you from under the floorboards when you were staying at my OH's house!! You made a right mess pushing bits of rubble through holes into the room below. You were trying really hard to crawl back through the small hole to get to us, but couldn't quite fit - we had to make some bigger holes in the floor - what a mess we made of that room hey!
Sleep well little one x

Sweet Cheeky
Cheeky died tonight. She was the most lively, fun, and loving hamster I've ever had. In her youthful days, her physical strength amazed the vet, though he said she was sweet and only tried to bite once while he was trimming her teeth. That's Cheeky -- athletic but tame, curious but picky about toys and food.
Not until very recently did Cheeky slow down. She did very well, Cushing's and all, until a few days ago. There was nothing the vet could do for her, so her rapid decline was perhaps for the best so she could die at home in her Timber Hideaway with her parents nearby and always available for cuddles.
