anyone know where to get roborovski hamsters in/near London?
hi,
I would like to get a roborovski hamster some time in the near future, so I was wondering if there are any breeders/small pet shops etc near london that sell robos? I'd just prefer the hamster I get to have been handled for a bit before I get them as I've never tamed robos before and I'd like the job to be easier haha. I don't mind where they come from as long as they're not from a mill (so not pets at home or something cause I don't wanna support unethical breeding) whether that be a breeder, rescue, small pet shop (both my previous hamsters were from pet shops that bred their own hamsters) or anywhere else. I just can't seem to find anywhere that sells them :(
I'm in East London (Essex) and I'd prefer to travel an hour or less, but as long as the travel time is less than 2h I don't mind too much :)

There's a rescue near Croydon (Gerbil and Rodent Rescue) that has two Robos (separate) right now. I don't think they are tame though. They also have hybrids, and a female Syrian. Animals looking for new homes
There's also GBH Rescue which usually has lots of hamsters though I don't know about Robos. They're in Beckenham. They don't seem to have a website anymore but this is a Facebook page for them: Log into Facebook If you're not on Facebook you won't be able to see the page but the email address it lists is [email protected].

Robos are very difficult to tame unless they have been handled from young so I would try and find a breeder.

Yeah ik, that's why I made this post hoping to find a breeder, or at least somewhere that handles them before selling :)

IME it's hard to find them! Certainly in the north anyway - I am looking at rescues at the moment.

Yeah I can tell haha, it's so much easier to find Syrians or Russian dwarfs (ww or rcd)

You might be lucky with a breeder of you’re near London. Nothing near me. Also look on gumtree etc as you get people who’ve had accidental litters after buying a pair from PAH etc. I did that last time but then he was extremely nervy as had a bad start with owners who didn’t really know what they were doing.

it's surprising, you'd think there'd be at least a few breeders in/around London as it's such a big city but there's practically nothing. I checked on pets4homes and preloved and there was a couple robos but less than i thought there'd be. I'm still waiting to be accepted to the gbh rescue Facebook group so I can see if they have any for rehoming.
if after like a month of looking I don't find anything I'll probably just go with a ww or rcd cause they're so much easier to find

Re: anyone know where to get roborovski hamsters in/near London?
Keep looking. I just found a rescue with robos and have one coming next week (they're too far away from you unfortunately). I also don't think I'd be up to making a full level so have gone with cardboard round the insides to reduce the height Cut up an amazon box and have 4" high cardboard round the inside. Works ok - only thing is means you can't take the top off without removing a lot of substrate first. I rarely take the top off anyway.
Try and find rodent rescues in your area on google. As Souffle says though, a rescue robo may not be easy to tame (or may never be tame) unlike one from a breeder.
