Re: Winter White breeders in Leicester ?
LOL. Colby has an Axolotl. Years ago my Aunt & Uncle had a Myna bird who used to ride on their Dalmatian's head. It used to talk too. My Uncle used to say, "You dirty...you dirty..." to tease us and the bird would say it too I had a Biology Professor who had, among a whole range af animals in the lab, several big talking birds. He had one Cockatoo that used to insult him as he lectured. Cracked me up fairly often. I love birds.

I do . And I love them! They aren't boring! Sure they're a little....slow, and....such but I love them anyway. Haha.

Re: Winter White breeders in Leicester ?
The axy I had hardly moved. She just stayed in the corner most of the time. She never swam to the top. She loved garden worms and was not keen on pellet feed. My sister had on back in the 70's

Re: Winter White breeders in Leicester ?
DrK, I love birds, but now, it is the wild birds instead of caged birds. I hand reared a canary and he went through a lot from a week old. He is still doing well and is very small for his age. He was very hand tame, then I had to stop hand feeding him to make him fend for himself. I had a lot of help and guidance from people on a forum. Through the 'diary' i put of him, I won 'diary of the year' as voted by the forum members. I named him Oliver as he was always asking for more feed when he was a chick.
This is him.
This is when I first started to feed him
This is him a few weeks later

Look at that! I've hand reared a sparrow who fell out of his nest. It is a time consuming job since they need to eat so often. What a lovely bird your grew to be in that second shot.

Re: Winter White breeders in Leicester ?
Thanks. When I first started to feed him, I had to get him out of the nest and place him in a nest made of soft tissues. He was so light, I could not feel him in my hand. I had a lamp above him with a thermometer to check the temp was right for him. I watched him spread his wings, take step out on to the edge of the nest and fly all the very first times / steps in his life. He used to jump on my hand when I opened the cage door to feed him.
