I think adoption is such a good thing That's how I got my 5 lovely ladies! I'd only go with 2 hams if you get them from somebody who has interacted with them daily, such as a shelter or a breeder, who knows that they get along and don't threaten each other. Otherwise, one ham will be perfectly fine. Gemma lived alone (her cagemate Jewel went back to the store, after she bullied Gem), and Gem became like one of the humans LOL and was totally happy!

on a side note... I never know if someone is male or female..I guess you know I'm a female by my name, and I've found that most people on here are females! Maybe we could have something on our profile for gender, just in case of question lol

Sorry for such a late reply. I have had dwarf hamsters in the past, started of with a pair that had to be separated due to one bullying the other, I tried a couple of more times with pairs but ended up always separating them due to fighting. Since then I have always only had Russians living alone and they have always been happy and very spoilt.
I am in the Manchester area, so ant advice of breeders would be great. I bought a beautiful Russian from pets at home he had longish spikes hair and we called him spike and he died four days later showing no signs of illness or anything. Day before he was lively we had him out playing and he suddenly died over night. I was so so upset. This has put me if getting one from them.
Thanks everyone for your replies, I already have one Russian who is so spoilt so I want to get another to spoil, and obviously both will live alone and be happy.

Russians are so cute, I have a female Syrian, and one female Russian and now ready to take in another little girl if possible, nothing against makes I have had some great lads who bought me a joy, the only thing I noticed was the makes urine seemed to smell stronger. I had two Russians pedto , and Alfie who had head tilt pedro came from pets at home and led a happy spoilt life in spite of his head tilt and was two years 4 months when he died four years ago and little Alfie died last year bless him age just two.
Never to be forgotten along with others that have sadly gone to rainbow bridge.

I know what you mean about Boy dwarfs wee smelling more. My goodness Joe's wee could knock you down from 5 feet away!

They also love to spread there smell around them!. That's mine...& that...leave my smell should protect it...oh Mummy your mine quick wipe of the scent gland
