Hi :)
Hi, as my username says, I'm Jess.
I have owned to hamsters in the past but I was a lot younger and they were more family pets than my own.
My partner and I are very interested in getting two russian dwarf hamsters.
We have looked into it and are sure that they are the breed we would like to own.
We are in Bristol and are looking to purchase them around mid september. I was just wondering if anyone on here is breeding russians close to Bristol as I would prefer to get them from someone who really cared for the animals rather than a big chain pet store.
Nice to meet you all,
Jess

Re: Hi :)
Welcome to HC, i'm so glad your looking to join the hammy family
It might be a good idea to visit a hamster show where lots of breeders will have hammies for sale.
The national hamster council website has information on the upcoming shows

Re: Hi :)
Welcome! This is a great website! I have a winter white russian dwarf hamster - Spock. I hope you find great hammies, im sure they will have fun with you Just choose as big a cage as you can afford right from the start, or you will just end up with one small and one big cage (like me) In pet shops they sell such small cages, its disturbing. And the hamster grows up and keeps running from one corner to another..space is important !

Re: Hi :)
Hi Jess and welcome to HC!!
Would deffinately recommend going to a fair or contacting a breeder rather than buying from a pet shop.
Home - National Hamster Council Here is a link to the National Hamster Council - if you contact them they will be able to tell you any breeders that are near you. The event at Bowood is part of a larger event and is only a display not an actualy show, if you contact the Southern hamster Club they should be able to tell you if any dwarf hamster will be for sale and give you some more info etc.
Show and display dates '10
Good Luck!

Re: Hi :)
Thanks for all your help guys
I'm gonna take a look at the sites now and have a look!
Also, I already have an IMAC fantasy cage so this is the reason my boyfriend and I decided on Russians as am I right in thinking robos and chinese would be too small for the bars and russians are a bigger breed of dwarf yes?
Thank you all so much again!

Re: Hi :)
Welcome Jess
Winter whites and Campbells are a bit bigger yes. Sometimes they can struggle with the tubes though in a multi level Imac so watch out for that. Imacs are not ideal for dwarfs due to the sort of modular arrangement in case the fight over territories.
You are near to quite a few breeders - Tristar hamstery, Wellington Hamstery and others are within reach so contact the Midland and Southern clubs to enquire
