Default Well, hello there!

As you can probably tell, I'm new here, but I've been keeping hamsters since I was a little girl. Over the years they've come and gone, and currently I'm ham-less, but I'm hoping to finally find the right little one when I've settled into my new house.

I hail from the north of Scotland originally, but I've just found myself in a small town in the east-midlands. I'll always be a scot at heart, but I'm not going to say no to the English summers!

Before I find a new hamster, I'm unfortunately going to need to buy another cage, as the two I brought with me were broken in transit. Can anyone vouch for a good (and mildly inexpensive) home for a syrian? I had a look at the three tier fantazia cage, but I'm not sure if it's suitable or not.

Thanks for reading, I can't say I'll be posting too much, but I'll definitely be lurking at least.

Hello Aimee,

welcome to the forum, i hope you enjoy your time here, and i am sure you will find all of the information you need here

If you have a look at the following list of shows you will be able to find your closest show and hopefully be able to get a new hamster from there, or you can have a look at the list of breeders on here to see which breeders have babies near to you near the time you will be looking

Shows and Results 2010 - National Hamster Council

With regards to cages there are many different cages currently available and many of them have different pros and cons - have a look at the cage review thread to see which one you prefer Ebay is a good place to look for cheap cages

Looking forward to hearing all about your new hamster!

Tammy x

Welcome. Please dont get the fantazia..its a **** to clean. However if that is the cage you are set on i am about to put mine on ebay or if you are interested PM me. Its the pink one.

My hamster loved it and i put an extension onto it to suit his needs but i have a new cambridge (the savic cambridge is really big and my personal recommendation) id rather put any new additions in.

Let me know if you are interested, would rather offer it to HC first

getting a breeder hamstyer is also a good idea

Hi and Welcome - nice to have you join us!

The fantasia is a little cramped to be honset, it is like the Imac Fanstasy though that is a bigger and better built cage than the fantasia - some people I know have had a few problems with it. The Imac is about £35 for a main unit and about £25 for each extension level.

Imac Fantasy Hamster Cage

^This is just the basic cage, and then you can buy levels to make it bigger like this:

http://www.ziprar.com/mkportal/immag...e%20gratis.jpg

You can add as many extensions as you like. It is deceptively large and the bar spacing is also fine for dwarf hamsters too.

Other cages are as Fluffymunchkins recommended - just pop them into google to have a look for them, some of them can be expensive if bought new but very often they will come up on ebay for a fraction of the price!

If you want to save some pennies and are ok at DIY have you thought about a bin cage?? They are quite simple to make and are really cheap. Heres a link to member Lousie81's how to guide!

How to make your own bin cage

Good luck with your search for your new addition

Hope to chat with you soon

re- fantazia

yeh, the hamster i had in it was the runt so he could manouver fine. plus i added a wire cage extension so that was ok. The fantazia attached to a wire or bin would be ok..just a little risky if u get a breeder ham they may have trouble with the tubes.

still like i said, PM if you are interested in mine x
