hi new to here have been reading alot and now feel it time to participate. i have a 10 week old hamster called dora (3yo sons choice she should be thankful she isnt fireman sam or postman pat though lol)
she has been fantastic and getting tamer by the day.. i had originally bought a critter trail and i wasnt impressed so after much researching/reviews.. i purchased a gabber rex 2nd hand.. its been fab and what a difference in her character and due to this site i went for it after reading the reviews!

Re: newbie.
thanks fluffymunchkins she has been great and becoming tamer by the day and my 3yo son is great with her. yes im so glad she has a much nicer home and i did more research.. crittertrails looks nice from a shop window but was cruel for her.. especially as her source of amusement now appears to be filling her pouches.. and running the wheel.. and then emptying them on her wheel and starting again.. she was happy and didnt bite bars etc but such a difference with this cage seeing her burrow (even if it is her house she has covered up and made a new nest lol) very pleased with the gabber.

Re: newbie.
Welcome to the forum
Dora is a cutie pie! Glad you like the Gabber. I use similar (Duna Multy) and mine love all the scurrying space! Did you mesh the top or can't she reach the bars? Only asking as I've heard (no personal experience) the bars are quite wide for determined houdini hams!

Re: newbie.
ive not meshed the bars but i havent seen her at them yet.. she did look at the holes (had read someone had one try to bite them wider) so i have used to screw/bolts out my sons construction set that were a perfect fit.. although small i was a bit paranoid she would escape! lol
i will definately keep an eye out for her taking an interest in them thanks jesse.
yeah dora lets him feed her treats and stroke her back which is more than enough with him being so little (her being so fast lol)
we had a pet hamster at my work (nursery) who recently deceased (RIP O'B) he was one of the best.. unfortunately old age (almost 4) he got two tumours in his chest but vet was optimistic he would make it as although old he was healthy and the tumours were not calcified.. but unfortunately he didnt survive the anaesthetic.. very sad day all round!
my son loved him as did i so made us start look into owning our own and she gets up alot during the day when movement going on so my boy can enjoy her for a little while too and me at night whoop!
