Default Hamster home made cage coating

Hello!

My husbnad built an amazing new cage for our new little Syrian hamster to be but it is built out of plexiglass and I believe pine wood which I know is not safe for these little guys.

Does anyone have any suggestions on what I can coat the wood with to protect from chewing or ingesting??

It is primarily plexiglass but I was thinking of coating the flooring with the cupboard liners that I can glue down? not sure of the occasional random supportive pieces.

Please don't judge us being newbies....just want to protect these little guys as much as possible!

Cindy

Check out this Reddit thread on pine.

In short, the important thing is that the wood has been kiln-dried. If your hamster isn't much of a chewer, using a safe water-proofing treatment, like Plasticote, should be enough.
