Syrian hamster help
Hey, new to this and i got a Syrian hamster a week ago from pets at home (Scotland) - the shop said don't try handling for at least the first week to a month. I have looked online for advise and followed that as i think it makes sense by putting my hand in the cage to get him used to my scent. He comes near but even with treats won't step foot on me, if he accidentally touches me he jumps. I don't want to scare him by any means but i think the longer i leave it the worse for him it will be? Also i have to clean out the cage, the shop suggested saw dust to line the cage, i have recent got a big bag of paper to line his cage instead, should i only do a bit at a time? I was finding big chunks of wood and worried he hurts himself. Also anyone here from the UK and know where i can get a big cage from as i got the biggest that pets at home have.
Once i can get him out the cage i have a ball pit for him to run around in while i clean the cage with different toys and new treats
