Default Hamster advice for 21 month old syrian hammy

Hi guys!

Just wanted a bit of advice. I noticed a few weeks ago my hamster has been coming out of her bed less and less, to the point she now does not come come out at all. Day or night, she sleeps. Also the other notable thing is, she has gained a tonne of weight. When I picked her up I gasped as I could barely put my hands around her. I thought perhaps because she is not moving, but, she has not been eating or drinking either. She feels cold to touch.

I have been trying my best the last 4 days to feed her and give her fluids, she has taken very tiny, slow bites. But today, no food at all, just a little sip of milk.

I've been keeping her warm by having her on my lap with a hot water bottle.

Is this old age? Any advice would be great. Happy to send photos.

It does sound like she is on her way to the bridge. This is typical of a hamster nearing passing. If she doesn't go on her own you should see a vet with her as she may need some help to pass. I hope her path is gentle or you can get some treatment. She is quite an elderly hamster now.

I agree it sounds like she’s ready to go. Try to keep her comfortable. I think they know we love them and are trying to help.
