Looking to get a hamster - how to find a breeder in UK?
Hello everyone.
I'm from the UK, and am getting ready to welcome a hamster into my home again. I have had a few hamsters, but my last one was a long time ago.
Am currently trying to find a breeder in my area, but not having much luck, any advice on where to look would be much appreciated.
I've already looked at the British Hamster Association and have tried googling with no success.

The BHA is not in operation any more. There are three clubs in the UK so you could search on their websites as all have a list of breeders. Northern hamster club, Midland Hamster Club and Southern hamster club depending on where you are located.

Thank you. I saw those clubs listed on the BHA, so I looked at my areas club, no one listed in my area.

Re: Looking to get a hamster - how to find a breeder in UK?
I would not recommend the Hamster clubs, from personal experience. I'd say try your hardest to find a breeder you appreciate the ethics of.
I run a rescue, so understand the importance of adopting. That being said, I know we as a society will keep wanting hamsters as pets, and so I want to support truly ethical breeders to strengthen their bloodlines.
I did a lot of research and got one of my hamsters from Eximius Hamstery. They are based in Coventry, so quite a few hours from where I live, but totally worth it! Additionally, Strongbrew Hamstery is another one that, in my opinion, is ethical.

Strongbrew are in Canada so that won't be an option.
Certainly you may need to travel however all the people who come to our hamstery (Custard) have found it worthwhile to find a carefully bred and raised pup which have been bred for health and temperament and raised with the greatest of care. Most of the club breeders I know are the same.
I hope you find a little friend soon.

Thank you both.
I can't travel very far so that limits me.
I shall keep looking.
