Re: Finley
This site is playing up again with text breaking up so will post in small posts.
I just don't know what to do for the best. Move him into a bigger cage to a different location or leave him in this tank.
When Scottie lived in this tank i could see that he needed more space because Scottie is much more interactive and extrovert but Finley is a bit of a recluse who does his own thing. Finley must be around 17 months now and shows no signs of stress behaviours.

Re: Finley
There are hamsters who prefer a smaller cage to a larger one. Dwarf Ozzy was one of those but i don't know what Finley needs.
I do know that Finley hates being out of his tank and will squeak loudly until i put him back.

Re: Finley
Sounds like a difficult decision Ria. I think because you care so much you feel as though he should be in a larger cage but then again he’s no doubt become used to his tank and it’s beautifully laid out and full of enrichment and he’s making no noises that he’s unhappy.
He may enjoy being around the Syrians as they tend to be more sociable and potter around their homes and if he enjoyed being around the dwarf sisters he may also enjoy being nearer the others but I’m kinda thinking maybe leave him as he is as he seems content already. Don’t think I’m providing much help to you decision making but I know whatever you choose to do will always be what you feel is for the best.

Re: Finley
I also think he may enjoy living in the room with the Syrians. He seemed to like it when the dwarf hamsters visited so perhaps other hamsters in the room gives him a bit more confidence.

Re: Finley
Thank you Stanza and cloudy. I really appreciate your replies and yes, they are helpful to me.
I think deep down i feel that i should leave him where he is because he's happy and he hates changes.
I changed his set up once trying to increase his burrowing area but he did not like it at all.
I would need to stick to this exact set up which i couldn't do in a barred cage but i could do it in the Kerry terrarium. The

Re: Finley
The text was breaking up again.
The Kerry is too heavy to go upstairs. Even if i could rearrange the lounge yet again to accommodate the Kerry i'm still not sure if it would be wise to move him.
Rodney lives in the same room as Finley so he's not alone.
Hamsters are curious and Rodney sat on his roof listening and looking over to the noisy dwarfs. I knew that he would enjoy their company.

Re: Finley
You know Finley best. I think he is very content at yours. As he hates change it sounds like it is best to leave things as they are.

Re: Finley
Sadly, things didn't turn out as planned for Finley. I had hoped that he would be living in something like a well enriched detolf by now.
I normally call a hamster i adopt myself an adoption failure but Finley is my adoption failure in the true sense.
He never moved from his bedsit to a house or flat.
He started off in a tent on my bedside cabinet though after being made homeless.

Re: Finley
I do not see this as a failure at all. Finley is very content and he does not seem to need a bigger space. His set up has a lot of enrichment and he has so much to do in there. You have saved him from a terrible life of being a child's toy. He sounds like a sensitive hamster who is suited to living with you.
