Thanks. He is a big and fluffy Robo with a sandy colouring.

I often wondered how he knew when i had gone to bed because i'm up and down all evening with hamster playgrounds upstairs and downstairs these days.

I figured it out. It's nothing to do with me, it's when my partner's office/den next door to Finley goes quiet, that's his cue to come out. He knows that when my partner has finished watching movies and all is quiet, the humans have gone to bed.

I chatted to him which didn't go down well so i just got on with the job as swiftly as possible. Not quickly enough it seemed as Finley run around in the emptied part squeaking. I mixed the old, fairly clean substrate with fresh and put everything back in. Finley calmed down and started digging.
The wheel is dirty and so is the house roof but that's a job for another day.
Finley is one grumpy Robo and reminds me so much of Rupert.
Pleased you still got the clean completed even with little Finlay running round in the part you were doing and that he calmed down after a dig about; saw all was well and then got back to hamstering about in his wheel when your OH saw him. Nice he showed himself again last night and hasn’t stayed grumpy for too long. He’s a super cute looking Robo

My partner was away overnight so there was no noise to go quiet which fooled Finley into thinking that the humans had gone to bed when in fact i was sitting in the room quietly. It was late evening but he is a late riser.
That's my theory anyway.

I don't think that Finley will ever feel comfortable with humans. As a child's pet he had most likely been living in a Spelos and been grabbed at. He would have felt exposed and unsafe which would explain why he doesn't want to leave his tank now where he feels safe.

I'm going to get a second, identical wheel so i can put a fresh one in when the pee'ed on one needs a clean. I did this with Scottie's wheel yesterday and put the spare silent runner in while i took his apart for a good clean. He run on it and now it smells of him! We must have the two messiest Robos and cloudy has the tidiest one.

And yes, Robos Scottie and Finley couldn't be more different in their personalities and behaviours.

Same as Syrians Clive and Jack have very different personalities but have similar ages and backgrounds. Both were unwanted children's pets living in tiny cages without wheels. Clive is highly strung, nervy, easily scared and all over the place whereas Jack is the most layed back and calm hamster i've ever met.

Haha! clever Finley to use your partner going quiet to come out. It was nice Finley did not realise you were there as it meant you got a chance to see him.

Poor thing having been a childs pet. It makes sense he feels safe in his tank. He is happy in his tank which is all that matters.

Getting a spare wheel is a good idea. Hopefully it will stop any tantrums.

That's a great idea I must be lucky as hardly any of my hamsters have pee'd in their wheels!

It's only the Robos here but those two are the messiest and smelliest i've ever had. Male dwarfs can have a musky smell about them. Ozzy was another one. Nothing wrong with their scent glands and its not an offensive smell either. Gordon had no smell about him at all and Monty only very faint. Never came across it with a female Robo or dwarf.

Finley and Scottie run, eat and pee in their wheels so the seed shells are often stuck. A quick wipe over doesn't always suffice and i have to get into the grooves with a little brush. A second wheel will give me time to clean and save them the stress of being without a wheel for a few minutes!

Another MouseBro for Finley and i can't decide between a blue one or a purple one.

I think purple would go nicely with Finley's fur.

Orko used to eat his seeds in his wheel but he stopped. I am thankful he has never toileted in there as his has a cork lining!

Lol! Had to laugh when you said that purple would go with Finley's fur but you're right. It will set off his fur nicely.
