Once he discovers the wheel that should help a lot to destress but he may wait until the lights are off.

If he has a neurological condition, i don't think that there's anything you can do but offer him a comfortable and peaceful life. No doubt, he'll be very happy with that.

He does sometimes settle, like how I managed to get a photo of him just sitting down in his oversized food-dish. So, overall hoping he's isn't suffering too bad.

Pico has very thankfully calmed down significantly, to the point where I doubt he has any kind of significant neurological problem.

He is incredibly curious & sweet, taking food from me and now he perches on his water bottle, watching me play my computer games and talking to my friends. He brings me incredible joy to watch and feed. As he was only ever meant to be temporary, I worried about the stress his previous family had on him, and the repercussions that could make him harder to adopt out. However now I feel like my issues are with separating from him, as he is such a sweet little thing.

Soon, I will be getting a detolf. It was for Neptr, though now I may just make the needed modifications to his cage & provide Pico with the space. I'm sure such a curious little thing would be delighted with a much needed home upgrade. We discussed how the grand size could be a bit scary for him, however I've seen his stress recover and now he is awfully brave for something so awfully small.

You have transformed this little hamster. Pico looks so confident and happy now. By the way he watches you, i think he's is trying to tell you that he wants to be part of your life, forever.

I am so happy to hear this! It is wonderful the spinning was able to be resolved. He has such a wonderful life now. I can totally understand why you would find it hard to part with him.

He is almost frighteningly confident! I went to put down his food bowl and he refused to move or hide, and I was afraid I'd crush him with it as he was just jumping up for his dinner

So, it's been about a month since I got Pico. I've just bought a Detolf (yet to put it up) which should be a BIG upgrade from his cage. He's currently in a "large wire hamster home" from Pets at Home. I looked it up, and I am pretty sure it's H30 x W59 x D38cm, though I could be wrong.

Small issue, however. I've had to leave my work because of some blood tests I got back. My iron level was 3 and it's meant to be closer to 100-150, so I was advised to take some time off to recover. This could be up to 4 months, but I hope not.

I have some savings for the hamsters, but the decorations that are crammed into Pico's current tiny cage wouldn't fill a Detolf at all. He hates his open spaces, so I was just wondering what I could do, perhaps some cheap sites/cheap DIY's?

Thanks

I am sorry to hear your iron is so low. I hope it gets back up as soon as possible.

Hopes healthy treats has some cheaper hides and things that would suit Pico.
