hamster injuried tail
hello! my hamster is a female syrian and 1 year and 5 months old. she is my first and only hamster in a 75 gallon tank. she somehow injuries her tail which makes me so sad. it seems to have a scab at the tip but also looks like it could be broken. i’m not sure how she managed to hurt herself. i have done so much research to keep her tank safe but of course she found a way. as soon as i noticed i checked around for blood or anything that could hurt her. i found nothing but decided to clean everything anyways. she’s still eating and drinking. and still her active self. im totally willing to take her to the vet if needed or i can always just watch her and see if she will just heal herself. im also up to do anything to make her more comfortable it doesn’t seem to bother her i will try to insert a picture. thanks for reading.

Re: hamster injuried tail
Hello and welcome to HC!
Unfortunately, accidents happen no matter how hard we try to make our hamsters environment as safe as possible.
I think that your hamster would need pain relief if you think that her tail is broken.

Re: hamster injuried tail
hi thanks for the response. i’m so sad about her injury even tho she’s showing no signs of discomfort and is acting completely normal. i’m scared about going to the vet because i don’t want to stress her to death basically. she’s never been to the vet before so i’m just nervous about making a wrong decision because she’s acting normal for right now. all the small animal vets near me are closed until tomorrow so i will call tomorrow and get an appointment thanks for the advice.

Re: hamster injuried tail
It's quite a common injury and there is nothing much a vet can do to be honest. They tend to heal fine on their own and the hamsters suffer no ill effects. I see them all the time on the show bench when judging. Unless she is clearly in pain or the tail looks black I'd leave it be.
