Unhappy New nervous biting hamster

Hey guys.

I had hamsters as a child and always had such wonderful memories. I have now just got a new Syrian hamster as a family pet. He was incredibly nervous when we first got him. I left him 5 days to get used to the cage before interaction with him only talking by the cage. I've given him treats which he has taken and tried the bath technique which went fine and he seems to enjoy his ball. However my 8 year old hasn't had the best experience. She's not been very patient with him and has woken him a few times and is quite loud. The other day she put he finger in the cage and came running out and it bit her really hard drawing blood. The next day I let her give it a treat through the cage and it leapt at her very aggressively. I've never seen him behave like this I do it all the time and he sniffs to investigate me when I talk and happily eats his snacks. I feel like he's really got it in for her and she is now petrified of him. Please help what do I do
