Smile Newbie

Hey everyone. I am a proud parent of 2 Roborovski dwarf hamsters. Currently making sure they have everything they need. After some research noted people put rocks in the cages. Has anyone done this? I was looking online looking at polished pebbles. I then thought massage stones they are a safe size, no sharp edges. Just wondered what other people used or thoughts they had on my massage stone idea

thanks
Sarah

Hi and welcome to HC!

I use stones in my hamsters cages, under water bottles and as stepping stones. They are too big to get pouched, have no sharp edges and can't fall off or get dug under.

Are you keeping two hamsters in one cage or do they have their own cages? I have a Robo as well and a foster Robo who ended up in an adoption centre for fighting with his brother.

Hello! Rocks are great, you can have some polished ones, and some less polished ones (good for keeping their nails trimmed) as long as there are no really sharp edges.

Just to second Ria’s question, I know many pet stores encourage buying Robos is pairs, but they actually do better on their own when in an enclosed space. Risks of them fighting or one consistently bullying the other are quite high, and signs may be hard to detect as it will happen at night when you’re sleeping.
