Re: Meet Monty
I saw Monty foraging around this morning so i sat by his tank talking to him. He didn't run away and hide but carried on hamstering about so i put a few linseeds on my palm and slowly lowered my hand into his tank.
Two sniffs later he was sitting on my hand hoovering up the seeds!

Re: Meet Monty
Monty is quite different from Gordon. I think when i got Monty i was still looking for Gordon.
Monty is lighter coloured and has a lot more white in his fur.
His personality is quite different as well and he jumped up the side of the tank trying to get out, possibly.
I made the unusual decision to take a Robo out of his habitat to see what happens. Now, Gordon would have given me angry squeaks because he did not like to come out of his tank.
The only safe way i could think of to transport a Robo is in a hamsterball so i got a small one, put some seeds in and lowered it in his tank. Monty sniffed and walked in so i let him out in the hamster playground but only for a very short time. Any squeaks or the slightest sign of fear or stress and i would have put him straight back in his tank.
Monty run around and sniffed everywhere with the ears up and not looking stressed at all which took me by surprise.
Maybe this is a one off because hamsters are naturally curious or maybe i have a Robo who is not as shy and timid as i had expected.

Re: Meet Monty
Lovely to see Monty enjoying his out of cage time, he looks so tiny bless him!
I think Robos vary in temperment & character as much as any species so not all will be shy or reclusive.

Re: Meet Monty
Hmpf.
My OH does not like Monty's new set up at all and says that its far too crowded, he can't see the point in having sputniks and why has Monty two when the others only have one.
Monty's opinion is the only one that counts but after a sniffing inspection and test run on wheel and saucer he went down to the basement sand bath, checked out the house, pouched some seeds and went to sleep somewhere.
Monty could access the sputniks if he'd want to and the weird yellow tube is to stop him from falling from sputnik into sand pit below.
Ok, i could not add anything to the cage and i'm of the more is better than less opinion when it comes to hamster cages but did i get carried away?
Opinions would be appreciated.

Re: Meet Monty
I like it, your cages always look like fun for a hamster.
I am going to try and work on Twinkle's this week, I'm still not happy with it, it just looks boring and I am sure he is bored with it.

Re: Meet Monty
Thank you Luna.
Monty seems to like it and doesn't appear stressed by the move. He's been out and about a few times tonight and his little face pops up in unexpected places.
Looking forward to see Twinkle's set up. I've always liked your set ups, especially the Plazas. I find barred cages more fun to set up because its far easier to do.

Re: Meet Monty
I thought George's Cage was crowded, I now know that is not true....
Interesting set up for Monty but if he likes it then that is all that matters..

Re: Meet Monty
The cage looks good to me Ria, I have only one rule with cage set ups, if they’re happy with it then it works! I’m sure Monty will love having so much to do.
