Hello from Scotland!
Hi everyone,
I have just joined after a great deal of lurking. My eldest (1 is wanting to adopt a hamster at some point in the near future. So we have been becoming obsessed with creating a decent enclosure, and all that..The bin cage seemed a great idea but not for wont of trying we cannot seem to get a decent sized one to use for a hamster. We are going for a Barney cage it seems, 100x50cm. So going to be moving a bit of the house about to accommodate it! And it has to fit the 12" wheel my daughter bought...
I do have some experience of syrians, I had one as a child and one as a teenager. Then a couple of Russian Dwarfs a about 16 year ago! I am please to see that folk have better welfare standards now.
It is still hard to find a decent sized enclosure though. We have 4 guinea pig ladies who reside in a 2x6 and a bit (L shaped) C&C, so understand the importance of space. It is a shame you can't get little grids and chew proof correx style material! Knowing a hammy they would still escape that..
I have been enjoying reading all the informative posts on here, seems like a great forum x

Re: Hello from Scotland!
Hi & welcome to HC
The Barney is a good cage & I’m sure your future ham will be very happy in it & will benefit from all your research.
Look forward to seeing your ham when you get one.

Re: Hello from Scotland!
Hi Leafy Lou,
Welcome to Hamster Central from another hamster-lover in Scotland. Are you adopting a Syrian? It would be lovely to see some pics when you bring him / her home. I have a hybrid dwarf called Freya, currently about 5 months old.
