Hi everyone, just joined Hamster Central, I have one hamster Leo, this is my second hamster my first ( Larry ) passed away about a month ago after i noticed he was losing weight on taking him to the vet a growth was found on his stomach and sadly I had to have him put to sleep.
My son persuaded me to get another one he is about 15 weeks old the hamster not my son ( the old one's are the best ).
All the best ken.

Re: New Member
Hi everyone, my concern is after I put Leo in his ball for 10-15 min, I then put him in his play pen for a run around ( he just chews his cage bars and climbs up trying to get over the top). When I returned him to his cage, after about 5min I noticed him on his top plat form just starring, he was like a statue he did not flinch for about 3min and then upped and ran down his tubes into his den.
Has anyone experienced this and can you give me any advice.
Thank you Ken.

Hi Kensland, welcome to Hamster Central!
I don't know what's going on with Leo, but I hope that he is ok!
I am sorry about what happened to Larry, but I am sure he had a wonderful life with you.

Hi Kensland, I'm sorry to hear about Larry but glad you have a lovely new companion with Leo. When I first got my guy he was quite young and did the freezing pose both when he was startled or curious and intent on taking everything in. Does Leo seem to enjoy his time in the ball and act ok otherwise after he's been playing outside his cage? Does he go into his ball willingly? There are so many different smells and things, he could just be reacting to all the new sensory input. If it seems he is stressed a bit maybe he just needs shorter sessions out for a little while to ease into things. My guy doesn't freeze anymore if any of that helps.
