Hi & welcome to HC
Congrats on getting Fudge, he really is a handsome little man!
I was wondering which cage that is you have & if it's just a starter cage as it looks as though it may be very small?

It looks like you have the savic spelos XL entry or metro? If this is the case it's sadly too small for a Syrian hamster. Don't blame yourself though as this is quite a common mistake and the pet shop should have better helped you.
Syrians should live in a habitat with 80x50cm of unbroken floor space. Many owners recommend the Alaska cage but you can quite cheaply make a storage bin into a cage and there are many tutorials online
Fudge is adorable by the way! I hope he settles in well.

Hi all. Thank u for your comments.. The cage was just a starter cage we brought.. Fudge has now settled into a bigger cage with lots of tiers.. so lots more room
We are also in the process of making him his own "play area" for playtime outside his cage... (when hes had more time to settle in, and got use to his new family) x

Unfortunately cages with lots of tiers or levels aren't really suitable for syrians, they are ground dwellers so they need one large floor area with lots of deep substrate (at least 15-20cm) to dig & burrow in, high levels are also a dangerous fall risk so you might want to look at getting a better cage.
It can be difficult getting a 10-12" wheel in that type of cage too.
Zooplus is the best place for cages, the Barney & Alaska are the most popular.

Welcome to Hamster Central, congratulations for your Hamster. As others said, perhaps getting the Alaska or Barney would be wise.

Hi and welcome to HC!
Congrats on giving handsome Fudge his loving, forever home with you. Great pic of your cutie pie; I love the name, too. I totally adore him already and have a special fondness for his appearance as my ham Eros looks quite similar. She is a long haired cinnamon banded with two colored eyes except her dark eye is on the left side. Fudge has heterochromia, meaning he has two different colored eyes. He would have had it since birth - it's a genetic trait. In hamsters, it seems to be linked to cinnamon and pattern genes.
Btw, when I was viewing Fudge's pic, Eros scurried to the computer screen and gave some whisker kisses and a high four to him. She must know he is a V.I.H. (very important ham), lol.

Aw Fudge is absolutely adorable! I love his eyes! Congratulations on getting a new ham friend and welcome to the forum. I can't wait to see more of him. Others have already mentioned about the cage but just to chime in, I really highly rate the Alaska and recommend it as a great affordable cage for a Syrian. It fits a 12" wheel and you can put in tons of substrate to stimulate more natural behaviours. Zooplus often do deals on it too by the way ...
