Hello - Newbie and preparing
Hello!! I'm Cham, I've never owned a hamster before but i've been doing my research for a while now and I intend to get a little one within the next 2 weeks! I can't wait!!! I am a bit worried, since it's my first time ever having a pet all on my own, but I hope i'll make it!! I just want to give a hammie the best life it can have.
Also it's my first time in a forum like this, still trying to figure out how this works!! Nice to meet you everyone!!!

Hello and welcome to HC!
What a nervous but exciting time for you!
What kind of hamster do you plan on getting? It's great you are doing all your research, there are lots of sections of the forum that you can see different types of cages, toys and read about other memebers hamsters.
I look forward to hearing about your new little family member

Hi and welcome to HC! I'm so excited that you have decided to get your first pet ever and it is a hamster. You have definitely come to the right place to meet a bunch of people with the same love of these little fluffs full of energy, mischief, silliness, and adventure. If you ever have any questions, please don't hesitate to ask. I look forward to seeing you around in the forum and meeting your precious ham when he/she gets settled in more. Have fun!

Hi & welcome to HC
It's an exciting time preparing for your first ham, I'm sure you'll do fine but if you have any questions or are unsure about anything just ask & someone will always try to help.

I'm... not sure exactly yet!! My options are quite limited and I haven't mustered the courage to ask what kind of hamsters my pet shop has (since that's my only option -our shelters only have dogs and cats so) but if I understood correctly, they have dwarfs so that's what I'm going to get!! Thank you for your encouraging comments!!!

Re: Hello - Newbie and preparing
If it's just a small pet shop they may just have Russian hybrids (a cross between Winter white & Campbell's Russian hamsters) most larger pet shops will sell Syrians as well.
If they do only have Russians or another dwarf species don't let them try to convince you they must live in pairs! This often happens even though they live happily alone & most pairs end up getting separated when they begin to fight.
Your cage, the set up, wheel, toys etc that you buy will need to be different depending on which species you bring home so that's something to be thinking about.

Re: Hello - Newbie and preparing
Welcome to Hamster Central!
You must be so ridiculously excited to welcome a hammy into your home. It is great to know that you have done your research and that you are prepared with the knowledge that you need. Just a little reminder that dwarf hamsters can be slightly trickier to tame than Syrians but that certainly should NOT put you off. Good luck with your soon-to-be new edition!
