Hello from Switzerland
Hi, it is time to introduce ourselves, as we will be getting our Syrian hamster in about two weeks. We are a family of three, and our daughter has been asking for a pet for about a year. We are not the right family for a dog, my husband has cat allergies... so we agreed on a hamster.
My daughter's 10th birthday is in May, and we will be picking up our boy hamster, who will then be 6 weeks old, in early April.
We are not Swiss but have been living here for eight years now; our hamster will come from a breeder, who lives about two hours away. We'll make a nice outing out of the pickup day. We bought an Alexander cage and are currently in the process of setting it up, so that everything is ready for Pepsi's arrival. I've been reading here for some three months now, sometimes obsessively, as I want to do right by the little guy! I also find all the hamster talk and photos strangely relaxing. 
I am attaching a photo of Pepsi taken by the breeder today.
