Default Hi!

Hi!
I've had my syrian hamster 'Squiggles' (Weird name, I know) for about 2 years now, and she lives in a Savic Cambridge cage. Recently, I got some dwarfs (big mistake, i suppose) They were russian dwarfs, got three on advice from shop and brought them home. Settled in. All was well. Until, three weeks later, one died.(in the shop, the assistant dropped one, which never really behaved normally. I suppose that was the first one to go.) And then, a week later, we found the dominant one EATING the other one. As you can imagine, very confused. So we go and get three Roborovskis to replace them. Same happens again. Nearly exactly. So, get two male chinese, as of yet, all is well Not sure if i've been misinformed about dwarfs in threes or something. The cage is the rotastak adventure zone. (been told rotastak no good, though )

So, not done TOO great

Sorry for a lot of writing ,
Seems to be a nice forum

Thanks

Oh dear you have had a bad time. The shop has indeed misinformed you. The cage is way too small for one hamster never mind three and the pod areas in a dwarf group just do not work as they become territorial over the areas and start fighting especially as they mature. Two sometimes work but you are better with even numbers than 3's.
Two Chinese seldon stay together though it has been known. Once they mature males can fight to the death very viciously. I'd be prepared to separate these two with a spare cage to hand. Usually starts around 10 weeks or so. You really are better with a large flat open space like a bin or duna tank.
Welcome to the forum

oh no what a difficult time you have had! It certainly isnt anything to do with 3s as dwarfs like company anyways, i think it has a lot to do with the size of the cage.

Anyways welcome to HC!
