Help with name and also breed?
Ok I think I need to stop going near the pet section of pets at home!
I only went in for a new house for Shadow and came out with this little fella, oops
The lady checked and he's a boy, but i'm not 100% what breed he is apart from Russian! He was from the adoption section though as it would have meant splitting a pair
I'm also not sure what name to give him or which cage would be more suitable than he's in now o any help would be appreciated

Re: Help with name and also breed?
He'll be a hybrid if he is in fact a dwarf of some sort.Without a pedigree from a reputable breeder, you can't be sure what species a hamster is and it is extremely likely if not guaranteed that otherwise any species other than Chinese,Syrian,or a robo is a hybrid.

Re: Help with name and also breed?
He looks like a Campbell's Russian/winter white dwarf hybrid. As amity mentioned it is impossible to tell if they are purebred without a pedigree however if he's from a pet shop he's guaranteed to be a hybrid.
What cage is he in currently and how big is it?

at the moment he's in one I got for my other hamster from pets at home, but i then upgraded to a alaska, but feel that this would be too big, i'm considering a tank or maybe barless cage but not sure which would be best

Re: Help with name and also breed?
If he had no pedigree and wasn't from a breeder, he's a hybrid
As for which cage would be better, something like the Alaska would be an excellent choice! It's definitely not too big, and it's also not too expensive. The detolf would also be a good choice for a hybrid if you're considering a barless enclosure. For names, Ace really stood out to me
Congrats on this little guy!

Re: Help with name and also breed?
The Detolf is only available from Ikea (it's a furniture hack cage) so you wouldn't be able to use the voucher.

Re: Help with name and also breed?
The Detolf is from Ikea. It's a decent investment for dwarf hamsters of any species, but it isn't great for Syrians(the depth is really quite poor for larger hamsters, but perfectly suitable for smaller species, even if the length is decent).
I'd go with the Barney or Alexander though,as both are better than the Alaska. The sizing of either cage would be more appropriate for dwarf species than the Alaska, and they'd both hold more substrate.Plus, they'd both come with some usable accessories whereas the Alaska wouldn't(plastic is best avoided as it is prone to causing ventilation problems and if ingested is not digestible, and since you can't predict any of those things becoming an issue it's better to just not use plastic items aside from a high quality wheel and in some cases a plastic bottle).

As mentioned above, it's from IKEA
DETOLF Glass-door cabinet Black-brown 43x163 cm - IKEA
It's not very good for Syrians in my opinion as it's not very large (in Syrian terms) and can't hold the bedding they need, but would work just fine for your little one! If you'd prefer the Alaska, that would be great too
