Hello~!
I don't have a hamster just yet, but wanted to say hi. I came upon this forum while (unsuccessfully!) trying to search for breeders in my area. Still in the research phase right now, but looking to get a Syrian eventually. Although I've never had a hamster before, I've kept a good number of "pocket" pets over the years. I just turned 28 this year, so it's about time for a hamster!
Some things about me -
I am owned by a tuxedo cat, and his name is Figaro. He gave me permission to use it as my username. I have 2 pet snakes: A cornsnake named Wolfgang and a Mexican black kingsnake called Otto. I was a violin student for about 4 years, then I stopped playing completely for another 4 years, but I always tell people I'm going to take it up again. I work as a 911 dispatcher, which takes up the majority of my time. When I'm not at work, I enjoy reading and wasting time on the internet. I also love art, dark humor, and things that are macabre in nature. I have a pineapple collection. I can do basic juggling.
... I'll stop now. Have a nice day~!

Re: Hello~!
Hi! Welcome I hope your hunt goes well. I am in search of a breeder right now also but it seems to be much more difficult to find one than you would think. I'm an EMT so thanks for telling us where we need to be lol.

Re: Hello~!
Hi Figaro!
Oh dear, I must be related to Indiana Jones, because I think that I would die If I had to live with a snake on my house hehe. You're very brave.
Good luck in your search! I couldn't find any breeders on my area neither, you can always try a rescue center or a pet shop. With patience they can be lovely pets too.
In the meantime you can lurk around here, you will learn a lot of things and will see a lot of lovely photos.

Re: Hello~!
Hi and welcome to the forum! You've come to the right place to start learning about hamsters!
Breeders aren't always an option, but there are a few US breeders on here who might know someone?
If you can't find a breeder (it's much harder in the US than UK since it's so much bigger) and don't want a pet shop ham, then a rescue might be a good idea.
I would try and find the shop that cares most for their hamsters and go there.

Re: Hello~!
Being in NY you might see about Hamster Tracks(Mama2six on here) who is in Pennsylvania she often will deliver to Buffalo NY for gas cost. Also may want to check into Strongbrew Hamstery(Hekomi on here) in Mississauga Ontario. Hekomi does a lot of rescue transporting so may be able to work out something for you, They have a wait list so you may need to wait a bit for a Hammy but it is worth the wait.
Both Hamsteries can be found on Face book by typing in their names. Both have litters but unsure if all are spoken for at Strongbrew and Hamster tracks litter is just 9 or 10 days old.
I have two litters currently but they are not my breeding and I have no history on their background except they were housed inappropriately and the pups are either sired by a sibling, or an uncle as the inexperienced owner relied on the store they bought the dam from which told them it was fine to house all the hamsters together until they fought. Thankfully there was only two females which were heavy with pups. I took both girls and one litter arrived on the 4th and the other on Election day the 8th. I'm in Mid Ohio.
