Hi everyone
Probably going to start this in the usual way but hi I'm Jemzy and decided to join this lovely little space on the internet as I've just today become a new hamster mommy and for the first time as well so doing my best not to either have a panic attack that I'm doing things right or freak my little girl out as she tries to adjust. She is a long haired Syrian who looks like a bear so has rightly earned that name as my initial thought of melon went right out the window as soon as I saw her. I'm glad I found this site as I've been reading as many posts before I got her to give me a good idea of what ive got in store for me lol.

Re: Hi everyone
Welcome to HC, congratulations on being a new hammie mom!
I'm sure you won't scare her, just leave her alone for a few days to let her adjust. Just change water & food.

Re: Hi everyone
Lol I've already learnt that they are. She's already learnt I'm the human who brings food as when I've gone to change her water bottle and put new food in she's already scampering over as soon as she hears the rustling of her food box

Re: Hi everyone
Aww bless her. How old is she? Where did you get her?!?!!?!! Sorry, I'm just excited!!
Oh, and a message from my laptop-hijacking hammy ...
"Hello, my name is Sweep. I am now 9 weeks old. I am a Syrian hamster. I came to my new place when I was 8 weeks old. I like digging! I hope to hear more about my newest friend Bear soon!"

Re: Hi everyone
Haha well I got her from p@h since that is the only place local to me now for getting hamsters as a local pet shop has had to stop selling animals and according to the girl who served me she couldn't narrow it down further than 4-6 weeks but I'm guessing since there was another Syrian in the little cage it had to be around about that time.

Re: Hi everyone
Ok cool. They can stay together until about 8 weeks I think. All petshops seem to have different rules about the age the hamsters have to be for them to sell them. But they can be taken away from mom at 4 or 5 weeks I think, so some petshops take them at that age. The petshop up here used to take them as young as that but now won't take any under 8 weeks!

Re: Hi everyone
I hope once she's settled in we'll get plenty of pics! (Sweep is almost begging for some but I have told him he has to be patient!)
